Now it seems like the minimum is $10. Guess I shouldn't complain too much, no way I'd mess with selling on ebay for less than $20.

Another thing post-covid that sucks.

I found 6ft of 1/2" speargun band for $12 a few days ago. Normally that would be about $30.

Maybe its old as shite though.

Because it is so I’m assuming it was used in jest. At least I hope to God it was. Who the hell really uses this phrase?!

Shipping via USPS Ground Advantage (the cheapest option) is at least $4.85 for 4oz or less WITH the significant eBay discount, normally $7.20 retail.

So, a $10 item minus the CC and eBay fees would net a seller about $8.75 minus $4.85 leaving $3.90 net before taxes. This is assuming zero cost for packaging, dunnage, and the label, along with no warehousing or labor costs.

This has killed the sub-10 buck items on eBay.

That's when ebay didn't take fees out of shipping charges.

shipping charges.

Shipping anything now is a pain in the arse.

USPS no longer does next day priority/express mail. Most things are 2-3 days. And still costs over 30 dollars. Regular Priority mail is 2-5 days at a third the cost. At that rate, first class mail is just as good.

That leaves UPS and FedEx as the only game in town for overnight delivery. Retail rates for an envelope overnight is like 60 bucks retail. Luckily, I found a shipping site that sells UPS shipping at wholesale rates, so I use them to purchase a label, and drop off at the UPS store. The cost is 25 dollars.

You used to be able to buy a new car for $5,000. A small popcorn at the movies used ti be $1.69.

Things change.

What’s the point of this thread?

eBay fees range across various categories, reaching as high as 15.3%. They don't just charge that on the item. They charge it on the tax they collect and any shipping fees charged. A seller selling an item for $100 that has another $10 collected for taxes and $10 for shipping has to pay that fee on the $120.

eBay did that years ago to get around people selling an item for $1 and charging $40 for shipping, but doing it on the sales tax is just bullshite.

Also, everyone expects free shipping these days unless you are selling something not easily found elsewhere so sellers just add the shipping into the price. When I sell on eBay, I just figure that I will see about 75-78% of what the item actually sells for after all fees and shipping expenses.

I'd rather throw away anything $10 and under than take the time to sell it on eBay. When it gets that low, you are looking at maybe $1 profit after shipping, fees, & packaging.

The only cheap shipping eBay still allows is envelope first-class shipping with a tracking number on trading cards. I see people selling cards for $1.25. They may be clearing .35 cents per card. I don't see how that is worth their time, even if they sell and ship 1000 per week or something crazy. eBay trading card fees are 12.35%

I sell on ebay and the minimum price I set with free shipping is $12. They have to be small and light for the cheapest shipping and easy for me to package up in a couple of minutes.

McDonalds toys are a good example. After factoring in shipping, shipping supplies, cost of goods, fees, I clear on average about $2.50 on those sales.

I sell maybe 5 item a year on ebay. Usually a pita and mainly I just want the things out of my house. I always charge shipping because it fluctuates depending on where in the country the buyer is. If they aren't smart enough to add the shipping + item for total cost then scrw em.

I did not know they charged fees on the tax. I understand shipping, but fees on tax doesn't make sense.

I went back and forth between "use" and "used". Guess I picked the wrong one. English was never my strong suite.
