'Ellabama': Funeral held for beloved Ella Cook, Brown University shooting victim…
As a Birmingham native, I am very familiar with the social milieu in which Ella Cook was raised. As I learned more about the victim, the question gnawing at me is why conservative parents from Red States continue to send their children to Ivy League schools?
I have seen too many parents in Alabama send their children — and substantial financial resources — to these “elite” universities located in Deep Blue progressive states. This decision is often justified as a rational investment in their child’s long-term economic prospects, based on the perceived advantages of institutional prestige, professional networks, and enhanced career opportunities.
So within this materialistic framework, parents rationalize that the inevitable exposure to progressive or left-leaning ideological perspectives is an acceptable trade-off for the anticipated material and social benefits that a diploma from these “elite” schools confers. Yet while students may indeed become credentialed professionals in fields such as medicine, law, architecture and accounting, they also will be exposed to socialist frameworks that portray the United States as fundamentally flawed nation that needs radical transformation.
Furthermore, students who refuse to adopt these prevailing theoretical or ideological perspectives will likely face academic marginalization, social ostracism, reputational harm, or even physical harm. As a result, the conventional markers of “success” sought by parents come with too heavy a price since these “elite” schools have become little more than indoctrination mills for the absolute worst elements of the radical, globalist left.
Certainly schools of higher education in Red States are not free from the noxious ideologies that have infiltrated much of academia. Yet students in Red States can find strength in numbers and thus not risk the social isolation that conservative students at “elite” universities must necessarily endure.
It certainly is not my intent to blame the victim’s parents who must be suffering tremendous agony for this senseless and evil act; yet this issue must be addressed. Our children’s future — and indeed the proper moral development of future generations — depend upon it.

The more likely explanation is that Ella herself wanted to go there. Her parents gave her a first class education and she made the most of it. It isn’t surprising she was drawn to a school like that.
Having said that, I agree that the Ivies aren’t what they used to be. She probably would have received a better education at Auburn.

I’m beyond sick about this girl being targeted and assassinated, and I agree with you, just answering the question

if she got into brown she could have gone most anywhere. agree, let her pick her path.
that said, if i could do it over, i would have gone to western state (gunnison, co and skiied crested butte all the time), az state (deep talent pool) or ut chattanooga bc it's cheap as shite - go mocs!

God Rest Her Soul.
By every account of those that knew her best, this world lost a bright and shining light.

Not like at the Ivies. And Auburn wouldn’t turn off its security cameras.

Well with Woody as AD anything is possible. But we’re talking about Auburn. And I don’t think you understand the level of depravity at many of these schools in the northeast. Calling them woke doesn’t even begin to capture it.

Because their daughter was an adult and could what she wanted without her parents permission, dumb arse. Are you going to ask why parents sent their kids to Virginia Tech or why parents sent their kids to a Christian private school in Nashville next?

They aren’t right wing beliefs, they are conservative beliefs.
That type of headline is an example of left wing proganda…villainizing those that have different viewpoints (I don’t see Fox News as conservative…but rather as controlled opposition). It is a factor in why low-t’s people are attacking innocents.

Do we know if either/both of her parents have connections to the area or are alum?
I know a guy who is an alum and his kid is in 10th grade, and had the school at the top of his list.

So true Kafka. Even colleges in the reddest of Red States have in some degree been infected by the progressive mind rot. Though I hold a B.A. from Auburn myself, I support abolishing all majors outside the hard sciences, business, accounting, engineering, building arts, etc...
While the Liberal Arts (English, history, fine arts, etc.....) can be continued to be taught as prerequisites for entry into these other majors, I support abolishing degrees in the Liberal Arts themselves. The humanities have simply become ideological pig troughs for neo-Marxist indoctrination, even at a “conservative” campus such as Auburn:

Auburn is one of the most conservative schools in the nation.
Her odds of facing systemic persecution for being conservative there are almost nil and if someone did attempt it within the faculty they’d be exposed and destroyed whereas at Brown they’d be celebrated, just look at the situation at OU with the term paper recently.
I got into a 15 response debate with Roger on this topic, unless you’re trying to go to Wall Street or law you’re better off elsewhere at the undergraduate level level.
Even if you want to pursue those paths I’d still argue you’re better off going somewhere like Vandy or Georgia Tech undergrad and trying to get into Harvard/Princeton/Yale that way than dealing with the undergrad revolutionaries at somewhere like Cornell or Brown which aren’t even viewed as equal Ivy members in the first place.

Can only imagine the thought process of sending a child to a northeastern liberal school. Of the three potential possibilities, the best one is the least likely.
They go up there and get exposed to Leftist ideology and transform into somebody the parents don’t recognize or understand, they stick to their principles and stand out like a sore thumb only to be maligned & targeted, or they manage to somehow survive & maintain educated and better for their experience.
