After issuing a proclamation closing state offices for Christmas, Sanders received a letter from the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), a group focused on the separation of church and state, calling for her to reverse the move and claiming it was unconstitutional. In a response letter, obtained by Fox News Digital, Sanders told FFRF she "will do no such thing."

Good for her. The governor has the authority to proclaim whatever holiday he or she wants.

If she didn’t tell any constituents which religion to practice or not practice, she’s within the bounds of the 1st Amendment.

The FFRF has the option that all of us have: don’t participate. It’s their right to make that choice resulting from the 1st Amendment.

Separation of church and state isn't what they think it is.

And the 26th is not even considered a religious holiday

Sanders went on to call it ironic that she received the letter "claiming I was alienating my non-Christian constituents as I was leaving a Menorah lighting celebration with people from all across Arkansas."

Sanders wrote, "I doubt they would say that my administration alienates non-Christians. In fact, many would say the opposite: that only by voicing our own faith and celebrating other faiths can we make our state’s diverse religious communities feel seen and heard."

That's my governor.

long story short. It's meant to protect the church from the state, and not to keep the church out of the state.

It was an absurddemand with no public support. The governor was correct to refuse to comply, but it was hardly courageous...

Actually, the Framers intent was to avoid the establishment of a state religion...

The way you explained that, if that is precisely what it is suppose to be, then I'm on board with the "Freedom from Religion" people.

I definitely don't want religion involved in government. And yes, I understand that everyone is suppose to get representation in our governmental system - even religious folks.

Everyone's fine with it as long as it's "YOUR" religion having the most influence.

Historically, the phrase “separation of church and state” (from Jefferson) was intended to protect the church from government control, not to ban religious influence from public life. The First Amendment restrains the state, not religious citizens or institutions, from establishing or coercing religion.

thanks for proving my point.... and have fun getting mad at Dems for using that exact philosophy in governing - I'm right. You're wrong. No discussion to be had.
