there’s a scenario where g5 team A is 11-1 with wins vs several p4 teams but lost to g5 team B who is 9-3 and got rolled in their games against the p4 but won the conference.
team a should go to the playoff
team a should go to the playoff

Doesnt matter. Either team will lose by 2 scores

Neither team should go to the playoff
Fify
And there’s no rule that a G5 couldn’t be an at large selection if it were truly worthy.

Top 12 teams, eliminate all set-asides. No guaranteed number of teams from any conference, no conference champions guaranteed a spot. Top 12 period. If you can't end up in the top 12, you don't deserve a shot.

Only if they beat a team that is ranked ahead of in the regular season.

This. It’s literally this easy.

Great idea except now this is the model for top tier G5 teams to not play decent P4. See UCF's 2017 team. They didn't play anyone all year. They need have some form of a quality win on their schedule.
Tulane lost to Ole Miss 45-10 this year. In what world did anyone think they had a chance of winning a playoff game?

No one thought they did; they only got in due to a set aside.

That will then force the committee to weigh the SOS/SOR more heavily.

Man so many want to ruin college football even more. Who cares, I like that Tulane and JMU got in. I hope we keep having a G5 or 2 get in and eventually they pull a huge upset. We act like Tulane didn’t beat USC in the Cotton Bowl a couple seasons ago.
If we keep going this route, might as well cancel the regular season, we will look at recruiting rankings and potential draft grades and pic those teams smh

Here's the problem. We keep pointing to bowl game victories as proof a G5 can compete with a Top Tier P4 team. Go look at how many injuries and opt outs USC had in that bowl game. Then let's talk about the players give a shite factor to play in a meaningless exhibition game against fricking Tulane. Did focus on the game or having fun in Dallas. How much partying did they participate in that week?
Now compare that to a game where they are focussed on realizing their life long dream of winning a national championship.
How come we never point out the Top tier G5 schools beating a Top Tier P4 school? Its always a bowl!

Having a G5 team in playoffs is "ruining the game even more!"
You're going to get way more meaningless blowouts than upsets!

But will that outweigh an undefeated team that plays a weak arse schedule?

Depends on how weak, I would guess.

Truth is anything beyond a 4 team playoff is overkill and even that didn't go well with lots of lopsided semifinal games. 1 G5 team should get in every year in a 12 team playoff. They aren't getting beat any worse than the other P4 teams.

Isn't this just like what we thought the 4 team playoff would be. Just the top 4 BCS ranked teams.
We have yet to get what we thought we'd get.

We pretty much got that with the 4-team CFP. I like the 12-team format, because there is always some variance in the rankings that means you could have a team outside the top 4 that probably deserves a shot at the title. Hence, the continuous arguments about that then. Now with 12, we are arguing about which team that we all agree has very little chance of winning it all should get in. I prefer that, personally.

I'm a fan of 8 teams, because I don't like the bye weeks. 8 should go to 16 and 16 is way too many. So 8.
Bye weeks in all playoff formats irritate me. I just don't think it's fair to get a week off to play the worst team in the second round. It's a double reward and also extends the season longer.
Baseball and basketball are where it gets me the most, needs to be less teams and longer series.

I think, for me, 8 is where it still gets a little dicey with teams that could be legitimate contenders. But I like it better than 4.
If they went to 16 teams and eliminated the bye, the timing stays the same. Make the first two playoff games a home game for the higher seed, too. Semis and finals can be neutral sites.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I think it should be 8 teams with conference championships as the first round.

I completely disagree. This is nothing more than everyone gets a trophy mentality. I say this as a fan of a G5 team.

and with that being the case they won't be in the top 12.

This is where they are headed and it's going to ruin the Army Navy game. My guess going to be 20 teams with four teams getting a first round bye. Here is an excerpt from an article published last week:

Any expansion beyond 16 teams will require either conference championship games going away or a calendar that pushes deeper into January and further back into the summer.
