My proposed solution for the G5 problem

No G5 team is eligible for the P4 CFP unless they beat at least four P4 teams during the regular season. Also, there can only by one G5 team in the P4 CFP and that team must be undefeated.
Otherwise, they can all go play in a separate playoff for the G5 teams if they don’t meet this qualification for the P4 CFP.

I mean I know the games were blowouts but this seems a bit harsh.

Just take away all the auto-bids, including Notre Dame's, and put the top 12 in.
If a G5 works their way to the top 12, then they absolutely should be included.

It is easy, expand to 16 (a true bracket) and give the top 4 seeds the cupcake conference champs of the lesser conferences as a warmup game. Win, Win.

There is no G5 problem.
Tennessee was beaten 42-17 in the first round last year.

Yes, separate playoff and championship for G5.
Go back to 12 (or 14) team two division P5 conferences. Texas and okie back to B12. USCw and Ore back to Pac12. Highest ranked 4 conf champs get first round CFP byes. Lowest ranked conf champ has to play first round game with #5-12 ranked teams.
Really good G5 program can join a P5 conference and level up if earned. Otherwise Saban is right, the AAA champ is never going to win the World Series and should play in their own playoff.
Put caps/limits on NIL and portal.

How do you rank the 12? It’s a subjective criteria that will always be impacted by some bias.

Just use the BCS formula and you must be iar least in the top 15 to get into the 12 team playoff.

Add “and at least two must be ranked in the last top 25 poll of the regular season”
Otherwise you could just schedule the shitty ones to meet that requirement

I have a better idea. The eight teams with the hottest cheerleaders are in. Of course, that means no Big10 teams.

If “power conferences” schedule the group of five you have to let them in the playoffs.
My solution is just not to schedule them.
