People who are currently employed but have 'Open to Work' on their LinkedIn

Is it basically accepted these days to have Open to Work listed on LinkedIn while still employed?
Not talking about people who have put in notice, just having this badge permanently displayed.
Seems like it would pretty much kill any growth potential in your current role. And I see it very often.

Linkedin employment status is the number one driver of career advancement. It is known

Possibly at the lower levels, but I cant see any scenario where doing this at the mid-upper levels would be anything but a career killer.

About 7 years ago a girl I worked with was openly doing interviews from her cubical. I found it hysterical.
When it comes to large organizations I think it's fine. They don't care about you either and as long as you show up until you're not expected to, it probably works.

This might come as a shock to you, but the majority of the workforce is contract based and tied to a project. I see this when they want people to know their job is ending.

I put this once as a feeler as we were going through a merger. As a Sr. VP, I got several recruiters bothering me with junior level positions. I mentioned I wasn’t looking to take a $300-$400k/year salary cut, but they kept pestering saying interview skills could be gained by connecting.
Never again.
Never again.

What if they just haven’t updated their profile in a decade? (Because who gives a shite about linked in?)

I deleted LI about 5 years ago. At that time, it was turning into Facebook. I don't miss or need it. And I imagine it has continued to follow the Facebook trend.

This.
I can only take so many motivational quotes from fake people.

People still use LinkedIn?

Open to Work to recruiters is permanently on for me. I don't do the banner on my profile pic, but I am always interested in hearing about an opportunity that makes more sense for me.
I'm not tied to an employer. If I wanted to be that loyal to a company, I'd start my own.

Everyone has a price
Why would it kill growth potential?
If someone doesn’t doesn’t take a job for better pay, that’s just dumb on their part

I manage our msft exchange environment. CEO told me to notify him anytime someone is sending out resume as an attachment via our corporate email. So, I set this up to notify me anytime an attachment has ‘resume’ in the name. What they do is if they want to keep the person they will call them in and ask them what they are unhappy about etc and try to work to keep them. If they don’t like the person they let them go immediately. Lots of dumbasses have lost current role over being too lazy to use a personal email account to shoot out resumes.

Who in the world would communicate about a new job through a company email?

I guess math is not involved in your field.

Well we know your math skills are poor…

I cringe anytime a recruiter contacts me unsolicited on my work email.
Sending out resumes via work email? That’s really stupid

Boomers. You would be surprised how many have lost high paying jobs over something so stupid. Others have gotten significant raises who we wanted to keep so it’s not all bad. You should see the Teams chats I’ve had to pull during HR investigations
