I have heard several of you say that this bowl game is meaningless! Well that’s bull shite anytime LSU steps on the field it means something to the guys playing and to me! So Geaux TIGAHS let’s whoop Houston’s arse!!!

It’s not meaningless. It just doesn’t mean as much as it would have before playoffs, NIL and transfer portal.

It's meaningless beyond it being a 3-4 hour window to kill some time with mindless entertainment during the holidays.

But it is meaningless for the most part

What would it have meant then?
Bowl games are just giant advertisement windows. Always have been.
What did the 2015 Texas Bowl win actually mean?
We fired Les Miles 4 games later.

I love bowl games. Yeah they’re “meaningless” when you’re not playing for a championship but it’s a fun way for players, most of whom won’t play after college, to cap off a winning season and take a sort of victory lap. I understand the ones who want to opt out to not risk injury before the draft but if they want to play, let them have their fun

To the returning players and to the new coaching staff, it is not.
It represents a chance for the new players to show them what they can do. And if gives them some precious extra practice sessions.
It gives the new coaching staff an initial evaluation of those players.

Don't get me wrong, I would always rather watch LSU play a game than not. And for the players that don't opt-out, it's great that they get to be "wined & dined" with gifts and fun things to do in the week leading up to the game.
But this idea that the non-BCS/CFP bowl games "meant something" before NIL, expanded playoffs, etc. is a load of BS. They've always been glorified exhibition games made for companies to get their name out there with little-to-no-baring on the following season for the participants.

A Few Good Reasons:
1 - 3 extra weeks of practice
2 - small vacation for the players
That's about it sports fans.

How old are you? Twenty?
"Always" is a lot longer than your life.
Back in my childhood and college days (60s-80s) bowl games did not have corporate sponsor names, AND they were the final decision point of who was a national champion (top of the AP or UPI poll).
Bowls-- and who played in them-- mattered, especially the big bowls.
Look at the 1969 season: 9-1 #8 LSU was slated to play undefeated Texas in the Cotton Bowl, but Notre Dame decided to lift their bowl ban so the Cotton Bowl picked them instead of LSU. Cost LSU a shot at possible national championship.
1986 season: the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams were independents (Penn State and Miami). With neither team having a conference bowl tie-in, the previously lower-level, non-big four Fiesta Bowl was able to snatch both teams for a 1 vs. 2 national championship.

They didn't have sponsored names, but it's cute that you didn't know that those bowl games were created for advertising campaigns for the tourism board and chamber of commerce of the cities.

Bowl game not meaningless
We have a new coaching staff but the team will be playing under the former staff's schemes with most coaches who won't be here next year.
And our roster will have big turnover by next season, so many/most of our current players will be gone.
And we're 7-5 playing in a shitty bowl. It's meaningless.

Nope it’s a crap bowl and nobody really cares. Take off the purple and gold glasses. This team is painful to watch and thanks to Nuss this is the crap bowl they deserve.

It's a payday for the conference which will trickle back to LSU and it is added practices for the players. Plus the players get to have some fun which is good.

It's not meaningless, it is really meaningless. Hope nobody gets hurt going half speed.

If it meant something, how come the Florida bowls in Tampa, Orlando, will draw 40k fans? Dont give me this "alumni fanbase" in Houston crap either. The ratings for these shite games will hit an all time low. Just wait.

That's right... for us that live in Houston, if Cougar High beats us (whether we have a full team & coaches or not), they will still run their mouths until we play them again... I want us to shut their cheer , "Whose House? Coogs House" and for them not to play that womp womp song (even though it's cool... "C-O-U-G-A-R-S, mother fuching Cougars" lol)
