I believe that historians will eventually recognize the period 1989 to 2001 as a pinnacle of American influence, power and superiority.

It’s tragic that it was ended by so few extremists on 9/11 for the entire world’s future.

Except the Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series in 1992.

And that wasn't even peak Canada. They'd win it again next year.

And we had the budget balanced in that time too.

It's currently 38 trillion and growing.

I think most posters here would agree that 1989-2001 was peak Americana even though there was a Bush and Clinton as President.

Operation Desert Storm and the fall of the Soviet Union and the Twins winning the world series all happened in 1991.

1945. Hundreds of thousands of young American men had sacrificed their all to save the world from the tyranny of the Nazis and Japan. Women and black citizens called upon to mobilize and contribute, hastening the path toward equality for all. Then the U.S. was instrumental in seeing war criminals were prosecuted by a court of law. No lethal drone strikes on tiny boats that posed little or no threat without producing evidence, arrests, or trials.

A balanced budget and a deficit are two different things.

The budget, yes. The national debt was still 4 trillion.

Yes, it's insane. But you were comparing budget to debt, which is not accurate.
