9 Notre Dame/8 Oklahoma vs 1 Indiana

12 Texas/5 Oregon vs 4 Texas Tech

11 Miami/6 Ole Miss vs 3 Ohio State

10 Alabama/7 Texas A&M vs 2 Georgia

Wouldn’t this be a much more interesting playoff? Texas was preseason number 1 for a reason, they have enough talent to get hot and win the whole damn thing. Sure did end the season on an incredible note. Remember Ole Miss in the CWS a couple years ago? Nobody gave them a chance, said they didn’t deserve to be there. Same idea here. JMU is a 21 point dog at Oregon. Tulane a 17 point dog at Ole Miss. What, Texas would be a 6 point dog at Oregon, at worst. Notre Dame would be favored over Oklahoma.

If we’re going to expand all the way to 12 why are we not putting the 12 best teams in? JMU and Tulane barely crack the top 25 best.

Yes, G5 needs their own playoff. Their inclusion basically just ruins 2 games this year. Get rid of auto-bids.

Only teams who spend a minimum of 30 million on their rosters, average minimum 75k in attendance and draw a minimum of 10 million TV viewers should be allowed in

The idea of best is silly and subjective, but yeah JMU in is strange.

Virginia failed to take care of business and lost to a 5 loss Duke in the ACC Champ game. Everyone whining about JMU being in can blame them.

Its coming..

Auto-bids won't be around much longer, and we'll have a bunch executives picking 12 teams for TV ratings

It won’t be 12. This will be the last season with 12. Ultimately we’ll end up at 24 with a lot of auto bids. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth

What you don’t understand is the 12 best teams ends up being a beauty pageant for teams 9-15. Those teams really have very little chance to win anyway.

That’s why just like almost every other tournament, a playoff that can be earned by beating the most important teams is the best.

I would rather watch a G5 playoff game between Tulane and JMU, than watch Oregon vs JMU or Ole Miss vs Tulane.

You are right that those are better matchups, but I find it annoying that one of main arguments for expanding the playoff and even creating one in the first was you have to give these little guys a chance.

Now that the media got a bigger playoff, I see some of the same media members that were saying “What about Boise State? What about UCF?” saying those teams shouldn’t even play at this level.

I disagree.. they want the ability to choose to leave out a JMU or Tulane. They'll justify it the same way the OP did -- "people would much rather watch 4 loss Tennessee play Oregon"

Oregon vs Texas and Ole Miss vs ND are undoubtedly better and more interesting matchups than Oregon vs JMU and Ole Miss vs Tulane. The only fans that would rather the latter two matchups are fans of JMU and Tulane, because they get to play in the playoffs and Oregon and Ole Miss because they basically get a free playoff win.

ND lost to the only two teams they faced with a pulse.

Its not 1977 anymore and ND has pretty much made it hard for themselves to make even a 12 team playoff. Little margin for error since people have caught on what a joke their business model of being an Independent is.

Of course.. but if that's the goal then you might as well just shutter all but maybe 30 programs across the country and acknowledge that its just a pro sports league.

Im actually looking forward to the day that the Supreme Court says that capping years pf eligibility is an unconstitutional barrier to players making money off their NIL. Then youll have players leaving the NFL to go to college at 31 years old
