First bl med prescription... I'd prefer to try a diet and exercise program first, but doc gave the prescription to get it moving. I'm getting my fat arse in the gym asap.

Google seems to show allot of people having issues with it, but I realize that folks not having issues will most likely not be online talking about it.

And recommendations for alternatives to BP meds?

Watch your potassium on that, my MIL had issues.

Advice? Get to the gym, but don't be surprised if you're tired.

I had to go on lobetalol (sp?) after my second delivery... don't remember much but I wasn't on it more than a few months.

GLP1 if you are a true fatass, but as far as lisinopril, it’s fairly tame. I’ve been in the pharmacy world for over 15 years. It’s highly prescribed and have been on it for about 10 years.

Common side effect is a slight cough, but it’s minimal. Main point is preserve the workload on your heart. Hypertension is a slow and steady cook. Lisinopril will help in a big way.

Don’t take drugs. American doctors are glorified drug dealers these days and will tell you any lie they can to get you addicted to a pill.

The cough became unbearable, so I was switched to metoprolol, which worked fine. A year later I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic and handed a metformin prescription. That was the point I said “frick this.” I changed how I ate, started exercising, and was off both meds within three months.

Nearly ten years later, choosing lifestyle change over medication didn’t just fix those numbers, it reshaped my life. Easily the best personal decision I’ve ever made.

Walk in addition to the gym, walking is the cheat code. If it doesn't grow out the ground or eat off the ground don't eat it. The doctors will say a lot of things about cholesterol and fats that are blanket statements and not necessarily correct. If you are male you need at least 20 percent of your calories from healthy fats to regulate hormones. This is essential to weight loss and overall health. I used to be on Lisinopril, no bad side effects but didn't help me. I changed my habits and haven't had high blood pressure in 8 years, I'm not on a "diet" I eat food I like I just don't eat fake food anymore. Unless it's rice avoid the middle aisles of the grocery store everything you want is on the perimeter.

That's encouraging!! I'm very motivated to not need to take the meds.

I know it looks daunting from the other side, and in some ways it is. The first month or two require real focus. You’re doing things you don’t want to do, skipping food you want to eat, and waking up looking exactly the same as you did the day before. That part is unavoidable.

The good news is that you only have to push through that phase once. After a month or two, the results start showing up and you fall into a self-reinforcing loop that carries a lot of the load for you. Momentum replaces willpower.

If you started in the next week or two, you could be in a completely different headspace by March. Once the weight starts coming off, your energy rises, your outlook shifts, and the whole process stops feeling so overwhelming.

And to be clear, this doesn’t apply to “dieting” or counting down the days until you declare the experiment a failure. This only works if you’re actually committed to changing how you live.

I had to get prescribed a different medication for this very reason. Lips swelled.

Yes
Also you have a bigger problem.
And it’s “a lot”, two words.
“Allot” is a different word all together.

You’ve had your whole life to try diet and exercise. Take your meds.

I was on like 5mg dose.

I was fighting some other non related health issues at the time, I also was doing about 1.5-2 cans of Zyn a day, and drank too much.

It made me crash out hard, when I took it within like 30-60 mins I would need to eat and felt like I was going to pass out or vomit.

Cleared up the other health issues, stopped Zyn, drinking less. BP down to 118/78.

Been taking 40mg daily for a while. No issues for me. When I first started taking it years back I got a cough that wouldn’t go away. I was just about to point of changing meds and it disappeared and has never come back. My BP was routinely in the 150s before now it barely ever cracks 130. It’s helped me a lot.

Same.

No issues at all.

I've been exercising regularly for 30× years.

Even mildly elevated BP causes vascular issues long-term.

OP should definitely exercise and lose weight; that is the true fountain of youth. Lisinopril is typically prescribed first due to its success in treating elevated BP and generally, very few side effects.

It depends on your type of BP issues. For me nothing I did reduced my BP significantly. I used to wake up every morning before 430 and work out for an hour....cycling in good weather, if it was not good the elliptical and push ups etc. Changed my diet. No fried foods. Worked on my stress levels with a meditation routine at lunch most days. My BP never got below 145 /90.

My dad had crazy high BP and it killed him. His cousin who was/ is an athlete even today in his early 70s has rto take BP pills.

I tried the exercise, right living route and it only marginally worked.....at best because I had a hemorrhagic stroke 8 years ago and that was with diet. exercise.....and benicar.

Now I'm on Lisinopril, amlodipine and carvedelol and a diuretic. I still exercise and still watch what I eat.

Some people just have it. I'm envious of people who can reverse it and keep it under control without meds though. But I haven't had any coughing spells with lisinopril . Amlodipine though has its side effects though
