So many options here. If they like heavily peated (smoky) go with Ardbeg Ueagedal. If they prefer a sherried whisky, Aberlour Abunadh is a good choice. A good all around easy to find Highland whisky is Clynelish 14 and will run you about $80 but punches well above the price. The most sought after bottle in your price range is probably Springbank 10 that would be my choice however alvailability and price vary widely by location.

ETA, Balvenie 12 year single cask would be my pick of,their line in your price range.

If they like peaty scotch, get a Lagavilin 16.

Bunnahabhain is a very good one too, as are the Laphooaigs.

Its a good intro to peated scotch but it is probably the bottom of Lagavulin expressions. I prefer the 8,11, 12 and Distiller’s Edition

I like this one, but I like Caol Ila 18 better if you can find it.

Easy boys, don't hurt your limp wrists giving the ardbegg a thumbs down.

I’d stay away from the real peaty stuff unless you know the recipient likes it…..
