They need an adult in the room and the guy is a bonafide football coach that has been successful at his last several stops.

61 years old so could give him a 3 or 4 year incentive deal. If he’s successful, you can keep him around, but shouldn’t bottom out the program and could move on for a younger coach after a year or two for no buyout.

Not that crazy in my opinion

If I'm Michigan, I'm putting the full court press on Dilly. I'm doing what LSU did to Lane.

Why? The only two real candidates are Fisch or Dilly who have likely already turned down similar stature jobs. After that who?

Give a guy like Holtz a 4 year $16 million dollar deal with little to no buyout. He either comes in and is successful enough to earn the whole contract or you fire him after steadying the ship after a year or two for nothing. The guy has coached football for a long time and knows how to run a program… something they desperately need after the Moore disaster and even back to all the bullshite Harbaugh was pulling.

They have no good options, I think he’s at least a decent one

They should go all in on Dilly or Fisch.

Dilly could be a homerun young guy that stays there 10+ years.

Fisch is in a program that breeds excellent coaches. Seriously, Washington is like the place to poach coaches from they all turn out good.

I dont think Fisch turns this one down.

i personally would rather go after a coordinator or a lower level coach like Cignetti and Tressel were

but honestly would put the full court press on Fisch and Dilly, if both turned down, would put full court press on Bob stoops

but i think BK would be better than a skip holtz personally. Even a Pj Fleck over him

imo PJ would be an upgrade over Moore if being honest.

sucks they waited and missed on campbell.

If they were going to take it, why wouldn’t they already done so?

And why would those guys take it with the mess the athletic department is in and not knowing who the next AD is?

It’s going to be hard for them to get a serious candidate this late in the game, why not get a guy that would be happy to coach them for a few years and ride off into the sunset?

Of course Dilly and Fisch are the best options, but we need to think past them here because I don’t know how realistic that is. So what’s next? A bunch of coordinators teams of your same stature had no interest in? And would they even take it? A lot of those guys are making really good money now

i get what you are saying, i dont think those two are dead yet but lets say you are correct for the sake of the thread

if we are going to go after coaches like skip....why not BK or Bob Stoops?

but if we are going to think outside the box, why not a Brent Vigen at Montana State? was OC/QB coach for a long time at NDSU then at WYoming under Bohl. Has 2 national championship appearances in 5 seasons and has them as the #1 seed this year.

why not a PJ Fleck? i mean he was 30-22 and had an undeafeated season in that state before, he is 65-44 at minn and is 500 in the big 10. He has the highest winning percentage of anyone at that school since WW2. he has 7 bowl games which is the same as last 3 coaches combined

here is another....what about Matt Entz who won 3 NCs in 5 years at NDSU? I know he was taking over a power house but still.just got hired as HC of Fresno...but its michigan

and i dunno what dick head is downvoting you.

your thread is awesome, one of the first actual football threads on here in a while to discuss cool shite without everyone getting all in their feelings

i think skip could work and dont think its crazy, just think there are others I would rather take a chance on first.

I assume BK would want a “real” contract ie buyout money and ~$10 million a year. Stoops has already “retired” twice for health reasons and seems too old school to me, but not that different than Holtz.

As for hiring a successful small time coach, it could work or it could be a disaster, and I think their main objective should be to steady the ship at all costs. Their Michigan, they can get a bonafide candidate next cycle or whenever they want to once there’s some cohesion in the athletic department. They shouldn’t have to hire an FCS coach, Kansas State does that. Doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work, just not their best path forward in my opinion

And I’m not saying they should hire Holtz, I just don’t think it’s actually that crazy

Worked when Ohio state did it

I don’t disagree with you, but they are just as proven as skip was my point, maybe more so.

Pj fleck certainly more qualified and brings a very steady hand

Hiring Skip Holtz to be HC at Michigan would be the College Football equivalent of the Luka Doncic trade. It is just too insane that anyone with an IQ of 4 would even think it would be possible.

After what he has done in Birmingham, I'm surprised an NFL team hasn't hired him as an OC/QB coach.
