Beef prices are high. Hopefully grocers use them as a loss-leader this year.

Damn, $7.99 / pound for a rib roast seems very good, yes?

I'm doing a Thor's Hammer (beef shank) this year, but I bought it this past summer. Wagyu and was $7 / pound. It's about 7 pounds.

i thought so too. i asked the butcher today and he was apologizing it wasn't going to be $4.99/lb like it was last year.

keep in mind, this is a once-a-year seasonal type of thing; not normal pricing but i ain't feeding my family prime rib the rest of the year either.

Was looking at the rib roasts yesterday at Albertsons (Vegas) and they were $14/lb. The old guy behind the meat counter told me to come back Wednesday when they will be $7.99/pound.

It always happens for Christmas and again for Easter, although not as cheap.

Lafayette area, looks like Albertson's has choice for $7.97/lb starting tomorrow, Super 1 has selects for $8.97, but had them for $6.97 just 2 weeks ago. Aldi is $7.99 for choice but ends today. $16.98 for prime at Rouses but ends tomorrow.

I've never bought and cooked one but keep getting tempted to try it out.

made one last year following a recipe someone posted on here along w/ homemade horseradish sauce and everyone went absolutely out of their minds so now i'm obligated to do it every year.

give it a try..its well worth the effort and most people are a bit burned out on ham & turkey at this point in the season.

Went to Albertson’s this morning and it was actually $7/lb with a $25 purchase. Felt like a solid price with how crazy beef pricing has been lately. Picked one out with a massive spinalis. Should be good eating.

Wife wants to do a top loin(strip) roast instead this year. Is this something I ask the guys behind the counter for?

If it’s a butcher they should have full strip loins. Just tell them what size you want and they should be able to make it happen.

I picked up a nicely marbled 8 lb. choice rib roast this morning at Tom Thumb for $5.97 lb. as long as I purchased $25 more in other stuff.

same! i picked up a 9.8lb one which i had to have the butcher cut for me because the biggest they had out was 6lbs.

best thing about a rib roast other than the fact almost nothing goes to waste is that it doubles as a helluva leftover for a few days.

i did forget to pick up horseradish to make homemade sauce though. i guess i'll have to make a return trip.

If you want to amp up your horseradish sauce, throw in a teaspoon of powdered beef bullion. Also, if you can't seem to get your horseradish as hot as you'd like it, adding some wasabi can fix that.

Where at in Nashville? I’m seeing $8.99 at Kroger, and $9.99 at Publix a couple counties north of you for us.

Yep, just got ours at Publix today. Do I have to wait until Christmas? I did do a thick enough ribeye last night that 2 of us ate it and we still had leftovers, I guess I can wait.
