Re-watched some Ole Miss games from this year and focused on Oline

Got push and opened gaps against Georgia. I know lane didn’t bring his Oline coach but their Oline was impressive and I know it wasnt littered with 4 and 5 stars like ours

It’s well known at this point that talent wasn’t our only issue

Most head coaches would’ve had a stroke, canned Davis mid year, and taken over or brought in outside help — after seeing the way our line played this season.
There’s a reason nearly the entire offensive staff is turning over. Next to impossible not to see significant improvement out of that unit. We were at the bottom of the ocean floor in this department.
I almost didn’t care who Davis’ replacement was, I just wanted him far away.

OLINE coach isn’t coming, but I’ve heard it said that the strength and conditioning coach is like a younger and hungrier Tommy Moffitt. One can only hope that’s the case. Would be nice to have some maulers with hellacious grip strength again.

BK made a lot of mistakes, but quite a few have said it was Woodward’s meddling that kept Brad Davis on staff. Apparently, Woodward did a TON of meddling. That’s why Verge made it very clear to Lane that he would get him all he needed and then back off and let him coach. The anti Woodward…..

Our technique on the OLine was pitiful this year. Guys didn’t chop their feet, nor have the foot placement on pass plays to be able to handle a bull rush. Way too many guys falling on their asses constantly though the year.

The current line we have now under his system would move Georgia too. Remember lane’s offense moves pretty fast and has lots of formations. Then add in quick throws that’s why his QBs hardly ever get sacked. Speed and quick throws is the equalizer when you lack talent. Plus his run calls are so unpredictable. It’s alot coming at you at warp speed.

I’ve heard this, but I find it so hard to believe.
Can’t imagine drafting $100M contract to not let a guy do the biggest part of his job.
Maybe Woodward got spooked by the Raymond / House situations & just lost trust for Kelly.

quote:Kelly was going to send Davis packing after the 2024 season, but it was reported that Woodward stepped in and prevented the firing. There's no legitimate reason for that to have happened, but it did (Woodward Libtard Wokester Politics) and here he is (Davis) still wrecking havoc as it all winds down to the END.........

it was reported
The only thing that was reported was that immediately after A&M, Woodward wanted to fire Sloan & Kelly wanted to fire Davis + that disagreement led to Kelly getting canned.
I’m gonna take your opinion with a grain of salt considering you wanted to retain Frank & hire Orgeron.

We had one of the worst olines in the country. Most FCS schools would push around our line if it came down to it. Just extremely pathetic and basically coaching malpractice.

So much of our OL problems had to do with our absolutely shitty offensive sets and formations for the play calls. A lot of people on here besides me noticed that we ran every play from a two point stance. Midway through the season we started infusing some three point stances to get better push. Couple that with the high predictability of our offense.
Lane spreads the field much more effectively to thin the numbers in the box and runs plays from multiple formations to reduce predictability. It is easier to get push when you are not running into loaded boxes.
I am not saying we wont improve from new position coach but it is more than just technique

yes, it was incomprehensible lack of vision and effort on most plays. It appeared that the Olines worst attribute was just plain lack of strength, especially in the lower body. Smaller d player just pushed them back into Nuss ' face and often just fell backward on their backside. It was embarassing to watch for their sakes. There were some exceptions, but our guards and center/lefttackle fill in lineman was excruciating to watch.
I will never believe that Kelly had a clue how to make it better during the season. He literally changed nothing from beginning to end. Davis stole from LSU on the level of Cam Cameron.

Ole Miss DLine was impressive too, they blew up opposing teams OLines stuffing RBs for no gains a lot, and constantly put pressure on QBs when passing. I think they had some strong DTackles causing havoc a lot, and Kiffin's teams aren't really known for defense, but this Ole Miss defense was good.

It seems like Kelly tried to do this and was denied by Woody.
It’s why I had one of the most unpopular threads in history what I said we owe Kelly an apology.

He brought his S&C coach though. :)
