Cam Jordan and Demario Davis

Both are on last year's of deal's with void years added on to future.
Void monies total 33 million next year.
Do you think either has any interest in continuing to play for the Saints next?
IF so, would either play on a very short term deal 1-2 years that is still team friendly that makes sense for both parties while the Saints can further spread down the immediate cap hit?
This gets to be a bit beyond my wisdom with the cap complexity here.
Its essentially why we kept Juwan and Chase last year.

One year deals tops. We should be prioritizing maximum flexibility as we move into the Shough/Moore era.

if it is a 2 yr deal, it would essentially be for cap purposes with 1 yr being guaranteed imo. 2 yrs helps spread it further out but again, it gets complicated.

I think it’s very likely both come back and play on team friendly deals. There wasn’t really a market for either in trades and I doubt there would be many attractive options for them this late in their career, especially Cam.

Taysom is in the same boat as both above but i'm not sure if i see the same interest from taysom in running it back.

I think Taysom retires personally
I could even see AK retiring too if the Saints sign or draft a RB high

He needs to. He's done.

Looks like he already retired.

I would have said 100% no on Cam and DD probably yes.
But their play and team position competition says they can help another year I believe. It takes a lot of will and desire to keep doing what they are doing and for so long as for them its not about money. When its time most Pros know it so we will see.

I think you have to rip the bandaid off and get younger. Even with a guy like Demario.
We ultimately lost a guy like Baun because he was never going to replace Davis. He wasnt that good in any other spots we put him in.
I just dont want to lose younger guys because some of these over stayed their welcome. We are not contending next year or even the year after.
Asks guys like Davis and Kamara if they have a preferred destination and send them out the right way

I would bring Davis back
I think Cam needs to just retire

If we do move on the time to take the cap hit is now. Dont keep stretching out these deals.
Do it while we are still figuring out some things.

Demario is still playing at a high level. Re-sign him for 1 more year, trade Werner, and start Stutsman next to him. Then get his replacement in 2027 when we have $150M in cap space.

meanwhile demario is on pace for a career hi in tackles. pretty amazing he's hanging on and still producing like he is, even though we all know he's not at his all time best any longer but its still damn good.

Despite what anyone here says, Demario Davis is not slowing down and I can see him playing another year or two or I could see him retiring on top of his game.
I do think both want to help get this thing turned around and headed in the right direction before hanging it up.
The key for me is the veteran leadership both provide. I wouldn't tie up long term money on either though and at this stage of their careers I highly doubt that if they want to stay another year or two it wouldn't even be about the money for them.

Demario has pretty openly said he wants to play as long as LeBron has… LeBron is 40… so seems he wants to play at least 4 more years (he’s 36).
I’d say give him team friendly 1 year deals until he wants to call it quits.
I thought Cam would retire but he’s played pretty well… if he wants to come back on the cheap I’d take it

Thai is absolutely not why Baun walked

Based on prior interviews, Demario says he wants to play another 2-3 years. So, why not give him a 3-year extension (if the numbers work) before the new league year to keep all of that prorated bonus money from hitting; it would actually work with the length that the current "void year bonuses" are stretched.
I think Cam wants to walk. There is always that possibility they talk him into a 1-year extension. But I suspect he's done.
Regarding your later AK question, retirement can be tricky because teams could try to recapture some of the money. But I doubt they do that here. If he retires, his $18.6M cap hit would drop to $15.2M and he'd walk away from his final $11.5M salary, of which $3M would be guaranteed - except for if he retires

Nice how you also cropped the part out about him being played out of position and it never worked.
It doesnt have to THE reason but it was A reason. He clearly works in this role which he was never getting here.

Both are leaders on the D; they seem to be holding up well even at the end of this season. I can see a 2 yr deal that would pay them something in the 2nd year even if they are cut loose after the 1st year..
