Let's say a person constantly criticized everything about you: Your career decisions, your appearance, your kids and the people who support you. And that person constantly said you were a total frick up.
Then said person gets stabbed to death by his own kid. Yeah, the politically correct thing is to put out a statement offering sincere condolences.
But IMO, most people would be thinking: I guess you shouldn't have spent so much time talking shite.

Trump isn't "other people", also, many if not most people understand you don't utter every thought that pops into your head.
Trump posted something that embarrasses and shames a good portion of "his side" and gives the other side real ammo.

I would have rolled my eyes if he put out a nice statement knowing he didn't truly feel that way.
