He’s not exactly loved in aggieland. Hes a good recruiter but him calling plays last year was a disaster down the stretch. Elko had to take over play calling this year.

Replace Elko with Lane and Bateman with CWJ and that’s been Oxford the last 3 years

Aggies felt the same way about Bateman that LSU felt about Sloan. Guy could not call a defense. He was a pretty good LB coach and a good recruiter.
Will Stein being an offensive coach and hiring Bateman to run the defense is a questionable move at best.

He was demoted from playcalling duties after last year. We aren't disappointed with this move.

ETA: Reading through the thread Kentucky has hired an OC that put together a terrible offense and couldn’t call plays to save his life, and a DC that couldn’t call plays in an already established defense.

I mean that can change but it sounds like he will start out calling plays.
