I've never created a thread here, but this film was powerful and moving enough that I wanted to recommend it to y'all.
I believe any person who is a father will find this film incredibly worthwhile and moving.
It is available on Paramount+. Here's a list of notable cast members. Some of them just have small but memorable cameo roles.
Viggo Mortensen
Charlize Theron
Robert Duvall
Guy Pearce
Michael K. Williams
Here's the trailer. If even one person here watches and enjoys this film as much as I did, this thread will be a success.

Saw this in the theater when it came out. Very dark and bleak, just the kind of thing I'm into.

I guess you're right that it is dark and bleak, but what I enjoyed most was the inspirational nature of the father/son dynamic throughout the film.
It's a very "raw" film for sure.

For peppers, SHTF types, it’s very realistic and dark. But it’s still damn good. But it’s excellent.

I recognize how good this was executed but damn its a hard watch....thats a dark and accurate look into humanity.

Didn't realize the film was based on a novel. Looks like the novel won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. Pretty cool

The book was phenomenal

Written by the same author that penned No Country For Old Men...

Amazing book. Haven’t watched the movie but the book messed me up for several days after i finished it.
Written by Cormac McCarthy, same guy who wrote No Country For Old Men
I’d encourage anyone to read his work.

Just a few.
I would say "The Road" is one ofbhis best... but they are all some of his best.

I'm not a big reader but I might actually read some of his work.
No Country For Old Men the film was a classic and it's no shock that the same author crafted another spectacular plot line in The Road.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film.
The director John Hillcoat obviously deserves a lot of credit. He also directed another under-appreciated film - The Proposition. It's also a dark western set in Australia. It also stars Guy Pearce, and also shares Nick Cave for a non-lyrical, ambient soundtrack credit.
A saw a thread touting a Red Dead Redemption movie. I bring that up because John Hillcoat already directed the short promo film for the Red Dead Redemption video game back in 2010. Time to bring him back for a full feature.

I’m getting old now if this is news to someone

Again, I normally agree with most all of your posts but yikes. The Road was the worst book I’ve ever read by a wide margin. I was astonished that anyone liked it at all. I laughed that they could even find a coherent thought enough to try and make a film about it

Read those 2 and get used to his style of writing, it is very different.
Then read Blood Meridian, his masterpiece.

I tried to read Blood Meridian, but it was too much for me. I can see how people hold it in such high praise, but it was not my type of book. I made it about 2/3 of the way through before I stopped because it was depressing the frick out of me. I'd rather stick my head in the sand about how violent humans can be.
