Trump administration strikes deal to end Biden’s student loan repayment plan

The Trump administration on Tuesday said it has reached an agreement with seven states to resolve a lawsuit challenging the legality of former president Joe Biden’s student loan repayment plan, a deal that could leave millions of borrowers scrambling to find another option to repay their debt.
The 7 million people now enrolled in the Saving on a Valuable Education program, commonly known as Save, will have a limited time to find a new plan if the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri approves the proposed settlement, the Education Department said. The proposed deal does not provide an explicit timeline, and the department did not respond to questions about the deadline. Before now, enrollees had three years to switch out of the Save plan because of the tax law that President Donald Trump signed in July, but that exit has been slow-going amid a backlog in processing applications for other income-driven repayment plans.
The settlement stems from a lawsuit brought by Missouri, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Dakota, Ohio and Oklahoma to overturn Save, which offers lower monthly payments and a faster path to loan cancellation.
Under the agreement, the Education Department must cease enrolling anyone in the Save plan, deny any pending applications and move current enrollees out of the program. The department will convene a panel of experts for a negotiated rulemaking to repeal the Save regulation, which was already part of the tax plan. The settlement calls on the department to notify the Missouri Attorney General’s office at least 30 days before canceling more than $10 billion in federal student loans. That provision will expire 10 years after the date of the settlement agreement.

Love it. These freeloaders need to pay what they borrowed. No more Starbucks or Netflix until their debts are paid.

There are a lot of second jobs people can take to pay off their student loans. I had to repay 26 grand plus interest on a bachelor's degree, so I did substitute teaching at a high school (part-time) for a couple of years.
But these fricks act like that is too taxing or unfair for them to have to do it.

The appellate ruling a few months ago did this already I thought

If only we had a healthy job market that will enable borrowers to repay these.
But I guess the feelings associated with punishing Americans who couldn’t afford college on their own is priority.

What makes this group special? I was repaying my student loans 2008-09 and beyond during that economic clusterfrick. There was no telethon for us.

Why would the individual states sue over this?

I wonder if Trump can claw back the estimated $100 billion that was used to bailout union pensions over the past 20 years?

Now let’s stop bailing out blue cities and states.

Because if you take out a loan you should pay it back.

Remember about a week ago when some retarded AI bot in here created a thread bitching about how although it had voted for Trump 3 times it expected Trump to fix the student loan crisis and the retarded AI bot tried to extrapolate that into saying it thought Trump meant he would forgive all debt?
Yeah, nah, this is what fixing the loan system actually looks like.
Pay up, bitches. In the real world, if you take a loan, you gotta repay it.

There are options out there. And ironically enough, your mentor, pedophile Joe Biden, actually gave good advice.
"Learn to code"
Except, he didn't know it then, but fun fact, AI can code for you.
There could be a booming market for people to code apps right now.

Pre government shutdown (Sept) unemployment rate was at 4.4%. Average annual unemployment rate since 1948 is 5.4%. What's the problem?
BTW, you never answered if you issue 1099 or withhold/pay fica for your house cleaning maid who although legal is scared to leave her home.

You cannot seriously believe that. These people all got their college paid for (student local REPAYMENT plan), and now they need to pay off their debt. Frankly I am SICK to death of hearing about the “government” paying for things. It is you and I, the TAXPAYERS that ultimately have to pay for all government spending. NO ONE should be entitled to “free” things from the government, most especially a college education.
