Russell Crowe slams 'Gladiator 2'
"[It's] a really unfortunate example of even the people in that engine room not actually understanding what made the first one special ... It wasn’t the circumstance. It wasn’t the action. It was the moral core"
He did not like that Lucius was Maximus' illegitimate son
"So you’re saying at the same time he had this relationship with his wife, he was fricking this other girl? ... What are you talking about? It's crazy"

It’s shocking hollywood would do that to his character

I still haven’t watched the sequel.

Good.
Gladiator is one of my all time favorites so I refuse to watch it 2 now that I know how they tried to retcon Lucius.

I refuse to watch it because everything I've read about it would piss me off. This Russell Crowe comment cements everything I've heard about it.

Don't waste your time. I waited a year or so to watch and regret watching. Actually made a thread about it being the worst movie I can remember watching and most people agreed it sucked. It was laughably bad.

It was really not good. And I wanted so badly for it to be awesome.. I left the theater going wtf was that shite ? 24 years we waited for that???
No rewatchability at all

In the same interview he said that in the original Gladiator they kept pushing stuff that was antithetical to the character of Maximus and it was a constant fight to keep the movie how it ended up.
Ridley Scott, his own worst enemy.

One of the most overrated filmmakers in history. For every good film he puts out he makes three bad ones. Since he made The Martian he’s put out House of Gucci, Napoleon, and Gladiator II.

In Gladiator 1, wasn't it heavily implied that the kid was his son?

No. Even in the cell when she visited him after learning he was alive, there was no hint of. I mean, if there would have been a time to tell him, right there would have been it.

Just like the many "Hop & Chop" movies where combatants are flying through the air performing Kung Fu moves and leaving a destroyed enemy in their wake.
The makers like to go over the top with CGI and with that technology, the skies the limit for the ridiculous action sequences.
