You are a hero if you are gay.

I haven't started the last season & this is what I am hearing. Is the gay one still Ethan Hawk & Uma Thurman's daughter or did they add another one?

It’s be gay to be a hero…

and it gives you super powers. Yes.

Guess they feel guilty for grooming the poor kid

I’ve made this joke a lot, but all kidding aside it’s a little more complicated than that. It’s as much about believing in yourself (which I think is also dumb) than being gay. But like I said, it is funny to frame it in the more simple gay angle.

That is what the show has insinuated since S1. He loves Mike.

I'm conservative for the record. No, I didn't get that from him getting his powers, at all.
If you've watched from the beginning, Will is a scared child, never really does anything at all heroic, etc.
Bob gives him advice on how to confront bullies and when he stands up to the mind flayer, it kicks his arse.
He finally had enough and tapped into the fact that he is connected to Vecna, accepts that as his life, and starts kicking arse.
Anyone reading gay shite into this part of his story is just looking for it.
Yeah, it's stupid that they made his character love Mike, but that has nothing to do with his rise into power.

The lesbian character noticed the gay guy was gay and basically told him to embrace his gayness, then he gets superpowers. It’s not even subtle.
I hate that they ruined a good story about a group of friends with this crap.

Eh. The whole story has been about this thing attacking those with internal struggles starting all the way back to the OG, barb. They’ve done all the cliches: Barb being jealous of her best friend, bullies from various backgrounds, cheerleader with pressure from mom, childhood traumas like losing family or wrecks. Overcoming insecurities is the main theme. If Will’s gayness is one, it’s just in a line of many. Don’t see a reason to make any more of it than that.

This is just laughable.

Which is the resolution of basically every girlboss trope movie over the last 10 years. . .they just gave you a gay male girlboss?
Dunno, stopped watching after the shitshow of season 2

Gay Harry Potter just had to accept and believe the gay in himself to defeat NOT Voldermort.

When will we get comments from the producers of the show as to what their intent was with this storyline?

I don't think they originally intended for Stranger Things to be a a gay show but it definitely became one.
90% of the chatter i see about it on twitter have LGBT shite in their bios. That community really sorta co-opted the show big time.

For the time, I think her advice was well done. There's other things to knock on this season for, but I didn't mind how they handled this stuff. Annoying that Robin and Nancy are in Sarah Conner mode to the rest of the guys, or that Joyce hasn't gotten a grip and acted more like an adult.
