I'm considering going to see these however The Return Of The King is listed as 4 hours and 23 minutes

I loved the 2 extended editions plus the early release of Return of the King they did at AMC theaters.
Long but fun day with a full audience of fans.

Yet, no scouring of the Shire. It's the best move adaptation of any series but leaving out the scouring of the Shire is a travesty.
That said, I will 100% be going to see all 3 movies at the movies when they re-release.

I'm not sure your average person is smart enough to see the pretty obvious point where these hobbits have grown throughout this incredible journey and are now able to take care of things like that themselves, rather than have all of the heroes they needed at the beginning of it to do it for them. They are the heroes now.
But I think your average moviegoer would just see it as "they went through all of that and then had even more to deal with when they got home?". And ultimately even the extended editions are made up of things they at least thought about putting in the theatrical versions, so if PJ felt it wouldn't work they wouldn't have even filmed it.

I did that with two of my cousins, and it was an awesome day.
Seeing the extended versions on the big screen was excellent, and the new one was awesome too obviously. That was a fun arse day, and I caught a lot of shite from my college buddies for missing an LSU basketball game that day. But frick them because LotR at the theater all day was a fricking blast.

When they released them in the theaters a couple of years ago, I took the wife and kid to see all three.
Not gonna lie, after it was all done, I felt like I ran a marathon.

I saw these movies (original versions) back to back to back in a movie theater in Mazatlan, Mexico many years ago. Good times. It cost 3 or 4 dollars to watch all 3.

That’s awesome but also, I’d love the regular versions as well. My son’s never seen them and he’s not going to want to sit for a 4 hour movie. Let alone three of them.
