Ok.. I am hearing "no one should be hurt playing a conference game"

Ok.. then lets set the playoff field the week before.

Well it basically is set a week before but some teams may win their way in. Miami could have won their way in this week had they made their conference championship.

If that is the case, OSU should remain as the #1 team.
Sorry Indiana.

It makes sense for teams that arent already barely in the playoffs.
Bama was a bubble team so it absolutely should matter. Werent they the last non-auto qualifier?

It’s a case by case scenario. If you win you are in. Bama had their shot and got blown out. They also got a chance to win the SEC outright. I bet you aTm would have gladly accepted that spot.

Alabama isn’t winning shite even if they get gifted a spot.
This isn’t one of Nick Saban’s teams that everyone would hold their breaths hoping they’d get left out because they would still be the most talented team in the field.
This is a pre-playoffs Outback Bowl team that hasn’t looked good since mid-October.

My thoughts were always this:
IF you are willing to REWARD a conference championship winner, THEN
You must be willing to PUNISH a conference championship loser.

IF you are willing to REWARD a conference championship winner, THEN
You must be willing to PUNISH a conference championship loser.

Now that we have NIL, I mostly only watch for the injuries. It's like watching NASCAR for the wrecks, except more wholesome. Some overpaid kid blows out his knee and he doesn't get decapitated, he just has to STFU and get a real job.

What are your thoughts on benefiting a team that doesn’t have of a conference championship because they had a worse season than the 2 teams in it?

quote:. That’s the beauty of a 12 team playoff. If you aren’t top 10 after championship weekend, I have no remorse for you if you’re left out. I.e. the best team in the country is in the playoffs, we’ll find out who that is on the field.

So then if you are going in you should not play in championship weekend.

It’s never going to be perfect, but with 12 I think you have enough leeway to play out the conference championships and still get the best teams in, but not too many that it’s watered down. It’s the perfect number imo

What a weirdo

I’m not asking for perfection I’m asking for a system that does not reward coming in 3rd or worse in your conference. I’ve always hated conference championship games for this reason going back to 2001 when Nebraska made the the BCSCG because Texas and Tennessee lost an extra game Nebraska did not have to play. Same principle here
As for the “best” teams that’s largely subjective but the 12th best team as zero claim to be the National champ that’s why I preferred the 4 team playoff

No one should be hurt is a terrible argument. It’s a game. Played on a neutral field. It’s new information that cannot be ignored.

They are, via seeding.
You win you’re a top 4 seed, you lose you slide back and will likely play the first week possibly even as a guest.

Right there with ya, but we know they aren’t going away anytime soon for obvious reasons. So we have to adapt and develop a system that works WITH them.
Which is what has been done with the current format imo.
They’ll make minor changes here and there, but the framework is in place for a fair and equitable playoff for all division 1 teams. (and fans of those teams)

There was a day where Miami played a conference game and if they lost it, lost complete control of even making their terrible conference’s championship game. They lost that game.
That was also information. You just choose to ignore it.
