I realize if they weren’t going to allow Kiffin to coach you have to have an interim, but making him permanent is crazy. They are the #52 defense in the country, and it’s not like anyone was knocking down the door to poach Golding. If they go one and done in the playoffs, maybe even 1 and 1, a lot of fans are going to start coming back down to earth with the realization this is their guy. I think they would have been better off letting Golding be interim while putting out feelers for the end of the season. If they couldn’t find anyone just leave Pete Golding in place next year with an opportunity to be the guy, but if he fails you can move on then and find the right guy.

Has Pete Golding actually been presented with a new contract to be HC? I think him being named permanent instead of interim is to help their playoff case.

Maybe so. I did try to find info on the contract and couldn’t. I would think ESPN would drag them, though, if they announce him as permanent and then kick him to the curb after the season.

They thought they’d try and pull a ND when they promoted their DC to replace Kelly. The problem is Golding isn’t Marcus Freeman. They will regret this. They should’ve gone after an offensive minded coach.

Promoting from within very rarely works out, unless there is an elite assistant that has had other offers. Golding is not that guy.

Shot themselves in the foot on an on the whiff emotional decision and it's even funnier that it'll be a huge mistake more than likely, little brother may return soon to the Ole Miss we all know, mid to low tier SEC team

They fell for the oldest trick in the book and made an emotional decision. Bama replaced Saban in January sure it's highly unusual but it was probably the better option for Ole Miss

It just feels like this time next year or the year after Keith Carter will be more reviled than Kiffin in Oxford. Had he hired another person, and OM fell back a notch, I think more fans would accept that in year one being a new coach. I don’t think Golding will get that honeymoon.

Over and over, you see administrators making the same mistake

For some reason, they think if we keep everyone except the guy leaving, it will all continue as before

Example: smoke lavall after skip and the vols promoting within as their coach headed to giants

Reminds me of when they ended up with Orgeron. They swung for the fences and everyone turned them down. Nobody would take that job. And Spike was there yipping and jumping and begging for the job. So they had to give it to him.

The candidates didn’t like the way Cutcliffe was treated so they all stayed away.

Golding is no Larry Coker. I view him closer to Mike Archer.

Straight out of the Joe Alleva playbook. I wonder if OleMiss’ GameDay concessions suck as bad as LSU’s?

It was an emotional decision that shows a complete lack of judgement. To not even interview anyone else is crazy. Maybe Golding would have been the guy anyways but to just give him the job with no real process is crazy and not being talked about enough.

They struck out on Sumrall and Golesh. It was the best they could do given the circumstances.
They knew Lane was leaving for a week and were interviewing candidates.

It’s their coach O moment. Let them enjoy the ride.
