Just what in hell happened to this event. When I was a kid, I’d run targets for the American Legion or the volunteer fire dept or whoever was putting these on to raise money. Seems like every small town in southeast Louisiana used to do these but ain’t heard anything about one in a long time.

Did it in South MS back when I was a kid in the 80’s at the local VFW. Some of those old guys really thought highly of their ability.

My brother won a bike at a turkey shoot at Gibson's department store. 10 years later that POS bike was handed down to me.

Proud moment for him, not so much for me.

The KC's still do it in my area. I have some old number 2 nitro mag turkey loads I bring. I can damn near blow the center out of that target.

Where is it? I want to enter, I’ll bring my late grandfather’s Steven’s 311 full/full 30” tubes. That left barrel was a turkey winning fool back in the 80’s.

It got killed by fb fundraisers like all the other cool events ( donkey basket ball, bear wrestling)
I remember my uncle bitching one year about how some ol baw showed up with a marlin goose gun. He said “the barrel almost was touching the target” he was pissed lol

It was better before choke tubes and modern guns. New tech in chokes blows those old long tom 30-36" barrel guns away on consistency of pellets on target. Kinda took the spark out of it. Last one i went two was separated by 1 pellet over like 3 rounds. Less than 5 pellets separated top 10

The last shoot I attended was put on by Hilltop hunting club off of hwy 449, south of Pine Grove, LA. The finale was a 75 yard shot at $10 shot to win $100. Most people were shooting turkey guns and chokes with the “new” 3.5” lead loads. All I had was an 1100LT20 gauge with the issued 7.5 dove load and I was impressed that 4 pellets hit the paper. The turkey guns didn’t do any better at 75 yards but they did beat my little 20, lol.

The public was sold a load when they came out with "turkey guns" and folks fell for it. HARD
