It is great to finally watch an exceptional PG on an LSU team. It has been a while and kudos to MM for getting him here. If you haven't watched an LSU game yet because you are one of these bleeding vaginas I suggest you give him a look. We have a talented freshman behind him and hopefully he's paying attention and learning but DJ can take a game over by creating or scoring as he did in the last few minutes of regulation and overtime last night much like Mark Sears did for AL last year. Hoping he can keep it up the next 2 games against better competition but has been fun to watch so far.

Tried to tell people way back in that Offseason thread when we got him. He's the real deal. We beat out Kentucky and Florida for him and I know some Florida guys are wishing they had him right now instead of Xavian Lee. That experiment has been a failure.

Last night was a tough game to watch, I feel like the effort was there their shots just weren;t going down and there are going to be nights like that. It was good that they still found a way to get the W.

He tilts the court but has zero help. No consistent shooters or other players that can create their own shot. I just hope he doesn’t wear down

You've clearly watched one game this year. Plenty of good shooters on this team.

Love his play but someone else has to emerge. This team needs more than just Thomas that can create when needed.

In the last three games they are 13-51 (25%) as a team.
Yeah, just one game. Good call, nimrod.

Nwoko and Thomas are the heart and soul of this team. If they don't perform we lose. Yesterday's second half showed us that

If you take out last night's outlier 16% and do the three previous games before that it's about 37%. For the season they're 94/361 teams at a little over 36%.
But sure continue to cherry pick 1/3 of your stat to include the 16% game to say they can't shoot 3's as a team

I’m not sure you know what “outlier” means. Half their games have been poor shooting nights:
4-16 3pt vs FIU
6-21 3pt vs Alcon
5-19 3pt vs Drake
3-19 3pt vs BC
Of course you would think this will improve once the competition gets better. Lmao

As a whole for the season, the team has a great shooting %. Now, that has to be caveated by the schedule. What my eyes have told me, watching 7/8 games, as far as guys who can create on their own vs better defenses, its thomas and nwoko. You could argue mckinnon, but i think as the competition steps up, he’ll be less effective there. And he’ll be used as a spot up shooter. The good news…we have a few spotup guys who are pretty good in sutton, mckinnon, and pj carter. But i tend to agree, when it comes to creating, thomas is the only guard who seems to be able to do it. Thats alot of stress to put on him expecting to play and play well for huge stretches each game. We’ll need him to stay healthy and we’ll need better shooting games from our spot up guys to take pressure off him more often

Also i see 33% from 3 for the season, 164th nationally, if we are talking about just 3’s, but thats not necessarily shot creation. Their 2pt% and effective % are really good, in part due to competition, and in part due to great point play

First of all, it's "Alcorn". Second, yeah buddy that's how shooting percentages work. It's the same reason baseball uses batting average over the season and not batting average over 3 games to say whether someone can hit or not.
The best 3PT shooting team in the country, Yale, has games where from 3 they shot
30%
33%
35%
You know this

Most of that is because they have been really, really good from 2. Until last night they had the highest 2 point FG% in the nation.
The 3 point shooting is becoming a concern. They started out the first 2 games well, then had two straight sub 30% performances. They had a great night against Omaha and an ok night against DePaul (on limited attempts) But they were 15% from 3 last night and 26% vs. Drake. From an individual standpoint McKinnon has been the best shooter, but he's been very in consistent. He's either really good or really bad without much in between. Sutton cooled off after a hot start and both he and Thomas are in the low 30% range. That's not good.

That's a bit concerning given those three games were the first jump up in competition...and it wasn't that big of a jump relative to what lies ahead on the rest of the schedule. The one caveat is all three games were away from home. That makes a difference. Now, if we get to mid January and the shooting, even with home games mixed in, is still bad, then that will be a problem.
There is a path to being a good offensive team without being a good 3 point shooting team: Great from 2, taking and making a lot of FTs, and good on the offensive glass. Wade's teams rode that formula to success multiple times. But you'd still like to have as many paths to victory as you can.
