Maybe a kid and his family were set on a school and a last minute call by a HC that has been at a school for a few days isn't something that they wanted.

In Coach Kiffin's initial presser he said he could not wait to get on the phone when the portal opens because of the interest he had around the country for transferring to Ole Miss, implying it would be even higher at LSU.
He has his targets he's confident he can sign. He determined Duckworth would be a nice pickup but not worth it considering who he thinks he can get.
He will get two QBs in the portal. Duckworth is probably factoring in this too. He can start at SC, He'll have to compete at LSU.

You always take a QB in a class because you never know how guys will pan out. Lane just tried to snag the HS QB he's been recruiting this whole time. This just means more money to a portal QB

He just wanted a decent qb from the highschool ranks. He was always going to get his starter from the portal.
