I've been doing a slow rewatch of the series. I have a higher regard for it this time around. On first viewing I thought the Penny character wasn't as on point as the rest of the cast. Changed my mind on that. I think the addition of Amy Farrah Fowler gave the series some legs. Even without her, I'm sure they'd have continued until the cast quit, but she kept the show from falling into a deeper rut. The bond between Sheldon and Leonard's mom is probably my favorite part of the series.

Did people actually find this show to be funny? I made it about 2 minutes into this laugh track nightmare before pulling the eject handle.

Yeah that was pretty bad honestly. I've never watched the show, but any time I've seen clips of it here and there it never resonates with me at all.

There are several clips of the show circulating where they remove the laugh track and it is a painfully dull, now I did enjoy Young Sheldon but definitely not because of Sheldon.

That's because laugh track series are directed to allow for the laugh track. If Young Sheldon featured extended pauses after every punchline it would seem equally dull.

I don’t get the hate for this show at all? It’s better than the other slop shows CBS put out around the same time. At least the characters had personality and they came up with actually funny scenarios for them to be in.

It’s not some comedy on the level of the Office, but it’s a fun show to kinda mindlessly watch, and there was some actual good character development for its type of sitcom.

My wife and I love this show and have watched this serious several times to the point where we needed a break.

That being said, Amy is a character at times I think is fantastic and other I despise. There was a segment where she sabotaged a "sexy" photoshoot some magazine set up for Bernadette and that sort of left a sour taste. But that's TV.

Penny is great, I treat he as the most resilient/survivor type. Her and Sheldon's relationship was the heart of the show.

Good point, but that doesn't make it good, clever, well acted or funny.

So cool and edgy of you.
I guess you couldn’t stand Seinfeld, Cheers, Friends, Frasier, that 70s show, two and a half men, how I met your mother, everybody loves Raymond and king of Queens too.

The show lost a TON of steam when the guys got girlfriends/fiances/wives and they became main cast members. Before that it was really funny, clever, and well-done.

Meatheads wouldn't find it funny. It does require a functioning brain to understand some of the jokes.

Some of the ancillary characters are the best, primarily the parents of each of the main characters.

Sheldon and Leonard's mothers are absolutely fantastic, especially the episodes where they interact with each other.

Kathy Bates is in a few episodes at Amy's mother, and she is hilarious.

As others have said, Young Sheldon sort of showed us how Sheldon was programmed to be drawn to Penny. He relied on his smartass MeeMaw and had his hate/love relationship with his sarcastic sister. Penny fencing with him and being there for him must've felt like home.

One of the great moves they made in Young Sheldon is changing the persona of MeeMaw. In the original show, June Squibb made an appearance as MeeMaw, and was a completely different personality. The original character would not have worked at all in Young Sheldon, and Annie Potts portrayal was the best part that show.

What is it with you people that can't stand it when someone doesn't like what you like? Seinfeld I liked but that was way after the fact because I spent most of it's original run deployed. Cheers was awesome, Friends I never watched. I never watched any of the others either but from what I have seen they were fine. With How I Met Your Mother, I could never suspend my disbelief that Doogie was some sort of prolific cocksman when he's a giant pillow biter.
