I’m tired of messing with wires that get kinked up or don’t work properly. ThermoWorks has their RFX Wireless Probe 4 Probe Kit marked down from $465 to $258.30. I need another Thermapen One and they are marked down from $109 to $69. There is a discount coupon code that would reduce the price down to $326.09 which includes shipping and tax.

My question is this. Has anyone bought and utilized the RFX Wireless Probes? The reviews range from people love them or something doesn’t work right. I can’t tell if it’s people complaining to complain or if they have legit issues. Seems like a lot of people write reviews when they are mad, but rarely come back to review something after they have owned the product for a year. I smoke a lot of proteins on my smoker. Just looking for something that works good without dealing with wires.

I couldn't get past all the negative reviews or justify spending so much money on something that may not work when I'm using it to cook a whole hog or turkey etc. I went cheap and honestly I have 0 regrets. This thing has worked flawlessly for me for 2 years and probably 6 hogs and 2 turkey cooks on an open flame rotisserie: PROBES

It's always been within 1-2 degrees when I compare it with my handheld probe thermometers, and has excellent battery life. I've had 8 hour cooks and used half the battery.

It doesn't have the furthest range, I try to leave it within 10 feet of whatever I'm cooking, but it has an app so you can watch remotely if you need to multi task. I was planning on buying this and hating it to convince myself to spend a bunch of money on a meater setup and that couldn't be further from what happened. Plus the fact that I could've bought 6 of these before I would've spent enough to pay for one RFX kit...

Not sure on the Probe Kit, but the Thermapen is one of the best tools in my kitchen. Highly recommend it.

That’s one of the big complaints. One of its competitors has a much better interface, but I recently was on this board and in one thread everyone was complaining it was overcooking their meats and was not accurate on the internal temp.

I agree the Thermapen One has always worked flawlessly for me.

Love my RFX stuff so far. Yes the app is a bit clunky but I love my thermapen a lot and its always been spot on with the temp so I will make do with the app. I just used mine to fry a turkey with a few probes in the bird submerged and the 12" probe. Also look at the billows fan attachment for different grills to control the temps in them along with the food on them.

Meater+ definitely had the better interface but accuracy....not so much.

I'd rather my probes be accurate and put up with a less than stellar app interface

really?

its worked out great for us; i am not sure what isn't accurate but the estimated remaining time is awesome and everything we've cooked has turned out perfect.

If you’re unsure on the RFX, then get the Smoke X4.

It come with 4 probes, one of them set up for the grill grate. You can get the WiFi bridge for it too.

I have that one and the receiver will read in your house easily. I don’t how far I was from it the other day, but it was probably 50-60 yds and it was still receiving the signal from the unit.

It’s also compatible with their billows unit.

My experience with the RFX has been great. As others have said, the app interface sucks, but the probes are great. The range is excellent. For Thanksgiving, I had a turkey on the smoker and a duck in the oven. Each had a probe in them. I placed the receiver between the two, which was maybe 20 ft from the oven and 50 ft from the smoker. Everything worked flawlessly.

If I read correctly it said you could use those probes up to1,000 degrees. The ability to smoke and cook in my oven or on the stove all at the same time is why I’m ready to upgrade.

You won't regret the RFX. Mine has worked flawlessly for me. Yea, the app could be better. But the upside far out weighs the downside. Rock solid connection that works flawlessly. Outstanding customer service. My probes have consistently given me readings that are within a couple tenths of my thermapen one. So I trust the probes.

I initially got the 1 probe kit but quickly realized I could use 2 probes. At least.
So, keep that in mind.

You'll learn a lot about "carry over" cook on steaks and such during the rest.

Highly recommend

No problems with my RFX connectivity and battery life have been awesome. I would get 2 at minimum. I pretty much use mine for long smokes.

I ended up getting the 4 probe one. At $258 or whatever I paid it’s too big of a discount not to just go ahead and get 4 probes. Normally priced at $465. The 4 probe RFX and Thermapen One at $69 with shipping and tax was $326.09 delivered. Honestly that’s a good price. I run over to The Butcher Shoppe in Pensacola a lot to buy my meats. Overcooking expensive proteins is just not cool.

When you smoke a brisket place one in the flat and one in the point.

Is the ambient temp prob wired and separate from the meat probes? Is that annoying to not be fully wireless?

Meater plus 2 has been touch and go but I like that it reads both temps.

The ambient temp probe is wired, and if you are running a billows, you will need a wire for that too.

You will need a splitter to run the billows and the ambient temp probe at the same time. I had one in my Signals kit, and just repurposed it.

Works fantastic for me in conjunction with the wireless probes. The RFX gateway alone with the can take you through your cook with it's battery, and each probe has its own rechargeable battery, but you will need to be plugged in to an outlet for the bellows to work.

I love the fact that I can move the meat around on the pit as necessary without wires hanging out of each piece to deal with.

The more you use your RFX the more comfortable you will be with the interface. If you only use it every 6 months, you might have to re learn how to operate it each time.

I've owned two sets of wireless thermometers - 1) Thermopro Tempspike model that would drop connection repeatedly and need to be reset; 2) early gen Meater that turned into a brick after some firmware update. Both went in the trash, probably $300 worth of hardware.

I'm currently using a Thermopro TP20 with a standalone base that is reliable and accurate. My thermometer and cell phone should not interact in any way.

I guarantee that you won't regret it. And thats a damn good price for all that.

Please read my remarks about "carry-over" cook during the rest here: LINK

It's important, cause it will help you get exactly what you want.

I've learned a lot since using my RFX!
