WR coach for USC under Pete Carroll in 2003 - not, LSU, but they were called co-champs by some. We’ll always be linked with that team.
OC under Saban at Alabama with Saban’s best teams. Gives him immediate credibility in Louisiana.
Coached with and good friends with Orgeron.
I was thinking about this when he called Carroll and Saban for advice. Include Orgeron in that and the cache in Louisiana and the connections are pretty deep. All that plus all the recruiting he’s done in Louisiana over the years.
Just thinking how different this is from the Kelly or Miles hires. We have someone who is totally connected with the South and SEC football, and through his mentors, experience, and being on the opposing sideline, LSU.
Feels good.

Pretty to cool to have someone from the Saban coaching tree

All of that and a solid proven SEC HC that doubles as an elite play caller. LSU has a huge advantage with all you mentioned & every single recruit knows LSU/Coach Kiffin. LSU/Coach Kiffin are going to feast on talent. Damn!

Fit isn't everything, but it's a boon when you have it.
Lane may not be a "Lousiana guy," like Orgeron, but his journey/experience has made him into an ideal leader for this program.

Kiffin has be floated as a candidate for a job at LSU since 2016. This has been a long time coming.

To me kiffin is way more of a Pete Carol protégé. Along with coach O

Dude if you really want to go Inception/7degrees w it, think about this:
We have finally come full circle. We got our coach. FINALLY. Know what it took? 50+ years.
in 1980 we got the top up and coming coach in the country following McClendon - Bo Rein.
Bo Rein had just won the ACC at NC State. Guess who replaced Bo at NC State with his first HC job? that’s right. Monte Kiffin. The Universe is paying us back for the massively damaging Bo Rein plane death.

Also, Pete Carroll was Monte Kiffin's defensive coordinator at NC State. That is where the connection with the Kiffin's began.

It’s interesting that in the press conference he kind of alluded to that.
I forgot how it was specifically phrased but something along the lines of eyeing this program along his career but that this is now finally the right time for both him and LSU that it was able to happen and that it’s happened this way for a reason.
I’m sure the most obvious time he is thinking of being 4 years ago.
