The Coaches voted for the transfer portal to close in January. It is their own fault

Not anyone else’s. Before this year, it was fine. Hence why DeBoer to bama was smooth even though he coaches Washington through the championship
This season, the below happened
The coaches are now all crying about what they created . They eliminated the April windows.

In January 2025, FBS coaches voted to support a single, 10-day transfer portal window from Jan. 2 to Jan. 12 for the 2025-26 academic year, though this recommendation now faces review by the NCAA Oversight Committee and Division I Council for final approval. If approved, this would eliminate the current December and April windows, and a subsequent recommendation from the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision Oversight Committee has been made to potentially change this window to Jan. 2-11.

Coaches aren’t as bright as they think they are. Some are. Most aren’t

I mean it creates desperation in schools so good for their money?

Would be very interesting to see how Kiffin voted. Considering he was a transfer portal guy I would imagine he voted FOR this very chance that he is now fighting against

Timing wise, wouldn’t you be more concerned with the December early signing window? The portal opens after the games are over

Refresh my memory.. did DeBoer miss the December portal entirely with Bama?

Seems maybe keeping the April one was a better plan. But coaches didn't want kids to leave after spring practices. So here we are.

These coaches are just rich, glorified PE teachers

The portal needs to open the first of January and run for two weeks. Then signing day happens on Feb 4th or whatever date there. Early signing can still take place December 20th or so. That would stop a lot of this coaching movement prior to the end of the season.

Most high school coaches are PE coaches. Think of your high school PE coaches and decide for yourself if that guy was smart.
I knew one who was really smart. One was a raging dumbass.

Without collective bargaining, is it even possible to go back to the old ways of only being able to transfer without sitting out a year under very limited circumstances?
The lane situation is only the latest example of this fricking up a team/teams. It’s going to happen every year, especially with the expanded playoff. Every G5 coach that has his team in position to make the playoffs will be a target of a P4 school looking to make a big splash hire. You’re going to have one or more playoff teams dealing with this every single year from here on out.
