The one thing that could flip the leverage away from Lane

I realize Lane is trying to force OM to fire him to keep his buyout by stating his intention of coaching the Rebels through the playoffs. OM's AD obviously doesn't want to be on the hook for that amount of dough.
However, what would Lane do if the team captains held a players only meeting and voted to tell Lane to pack his shite and hit the road? That would be about the only thing that could flip the script on Lane.

I don’t think he’s trying to get fired

OM is not worried about the buyout if the LSU job is still open unless they were stupid enough not to include a mitigation clause. As soon as he inks the LSU contract, there is no buyout.

Regardless it’s bs he can’t coach his current football team that he’s contractually obligated to coach this year.

Yeah, because that is so out of the realm of possibility.
And, as usual, LSU fans - in their paranoid sensitivity - completely misread the impact if something like that happened. I will say this slowly so even Tiger fans will understand: A player revolt forcing Lane to cut bait is what y'all should be praying for!
The longer Lane hangs out in Oxford greatly impacts LSU's season next year. Something - anything - that gets Lane to Baton Rouge quicker is a good thing.

Any buyout would be negated by his new salary at LSU

Have you hit puberty yet? For your sake I hope not.
Players realize this is a business more than fans apparently
