I mean freaking sun belt Billy beat him at ULL. What has this dude done that warrants all this interest over him?

What’s more interesting is when Lane lands wherever he’s going 2 of those schools will be fighting with another SEC program for Sumrall.

It will be like the DG brand version of Kiffin’s courtship.

The only sure thing hire is Lane. If we missed on him, are there any more sure things than Sumrall? No everyone is a risk at that point

Thankfully this time, we won’t be at that point

Not every sunbelt coach is Billy Napier that’s a lazy fricking narrative

He is basically Billy Napier, but he has no pedigree like Napier did. He comes from Kentucky, San Diego, Ole Miss and Auburn. Pretty much all shite programs. He has never really excelled at being a coordinator. I know he’s been a co-coordinator a couple of times. I could understand if he was coordinator for Saban like Kirby Smart or Lanning. We are screwed if we hire Sumrall. We deserve everything we get too.

It seems like the available coaching pool is pretty bad this year. If you'd have told me 5-10 years ago that Florida or LSU couldn't hire Indiana's coach at will I'd have laughed at you.

No Billy’s resume was at least as good and likely better.

It’s an absolute cliff if you go from Lane to Sumrall or Drinkwitz. We better land Lane. I’d rather take a chance on a coach that makes 1.4 million a year like Eric Morris. You can pay him 4-5 million and you know you will have a good offense at the very least. If he doesn’t work out you can move on.

So true. Whoever hires Sumrall gets what they deserve. An immature Group of 5 coach whose teams get their asses kicked by teams like UTSA and has never beaten an actual quality team.

I’m with you. I’ve never understood the Sumrall hype. He’s a hard pass for me.

Every good HC hire LSU has made ever was not a "sitting, successful P5 HC". In fact, I would argue the WORST hire in school history was a sitting, successful P5 HC.

So, personally, I am pro finding young up and comers. Yes, they're a risk, but we just hired the opposite and it was a fricking trainwreck.

I'm not sure whether I'd rather him or drink, it won't come to that though

Come on, that’s some serious hyperbole. Kelly is a bum, but “worst hire ever” is a wild take.

Everyone keeps saying that Lane is overrated. We just snagged the most successful coach in ole miss history. Think about the opponents he’s had to face.
