This is a great example of the tragedy of pure democracy. The majority will continue to vote to steal the money of the minority, even when there’s none left, schools and infrastructure are crumbling, and lawlessness overcomes communities.
Human nature corrupts democracy as much as it corrupts Marxism. Likely why the framers considered the Constitutional Republic a “more perfect” government. Not perfect… none are. Just more perfect.

Looked into it. Have to make less than 38k. Found a lot for sale for 3k, prop taxes were $700/yr, improbably another $700/yr in lawn care. If you want to help out a 18 year old kid buy them the lot and let them collect 12k yearly.

Some clarifications.
It is $500, not $1000
It is not permanent, it is only funded through next year
Cook county does not have a budget shortfall for 2026. They reduced spending and forecast a balanced budget
You cannot get it just by setting up a PO box
