Same Stan as yesterday evening
49 clear with decent north wind
4lsu2^3 with his 7-08 on his first ever morning hunt.

He should have already killed a couple of deer since we got in the stand. It’s been a damn hoot the last hour. Great memories

4lsu2jr is NOT happy his younger brother is getting all of the action so far.

I saw one of the biggest deer I've ever seen alive in Claiborne yesterday. I was traveling from Haynsville to Bernice and about 2 miles past the Corney Lake turnoff he crossed the road and went into a bottom. At least a 10 and maybe a 12, had dark chocolate horns, and was at least 225 or better. I watched him for about 30 seconds.

I've killed a 159 and he was larger than that by a good bit.

55 with 5-10mph NW wind
12 gauge with 2 dozen decoys.

Ducks didn't fly at all this morning. Disappointing since the front is moving through. Went to put my waders on this morning and felt something in the toe of my left foot. Bend down and get hit with a dead smell. First thought is a mouse. Nope, a duck head. Rewind to last Sunday I was picking up decoys and when I get back to the blind I see a teal on off the lanyard with no head and my dog licking it. I think he ate the head. I'm baffled at how it somehow got in my boot without my knowing.

San Saba county
45, light north wind
8 year old shooting a lefty rem 700 in .243 with 95gr nosler ballistic tip hand loads.

And he connected! Got his first deer, a nice 8. He’s been hunting hard this year with no luck until today.

I made a mistake and let excitement get the better of me and got out the blind too soon. Turned what would have been an easy drive the truck to it recovery into a damn long track across a major creek with 30’ tall banks. He stayed positive though and did a great job helping to find blood. That drag out whipped my arse but he is on cloud 9.

The whole family is hunting behind the house this evening. We’ve got it covered.
Lot of does hanging around where I am with my little girl. Hoping they make an appearance before dark.

At the hospital in Tallahassee trying to bust my mom out. Hopefully going somewhere in the morning as it’s opening gun season. Kids want to go listen to the hounds but we may have to stay closer to the house.

On my second hunt for the year. Sitting on a food plot and have seen several doves and squirrels. My BIL and I each got a deer on Saturday and the cell cameras have gone quiet since then. Weather is great. 55 degrees with a slight breeze. Hunting with a Remington .30-06.

The amount that I’ve seen produced this year is insane. An acquaintance of mine is an arborist and said that certain oak trees have a 2-year memory when it comes to producing acorns. Most of them remember the drought in 2023 and have produced accordingly. He said expect about a 50% reduction next year.

I just raked 10 gallons up in the driveway today. Tons left

I think this is why my camera activity is way down. Until acorns get scarce they dont care about your apple rage or kern!
