Patel on way out?

President Trump is considering firing FBI Director Kash Patel. The initial report came from MS Now—formerly MSNBC—but it has since been confirmed by other outlets. Importantly, the White House has not issued a firm denial, which is unusual.

This follows internal criticism of Patel within the Department of Justice and the White House. According to DOJ officials, Patel previously tweeted during an active investigation, alerting suspects and allowing them to flee. He has also posted other comments that may have compromised investigations. He’s been criticized for using the FBI’s private jet to attend concerts during the government shutdown—he is required to reimburse the government for commercial airfare, but was told not to use the jet and did anyway. He also reportedly tried to use the FBI to provide SWAT protection for his girlfriend, a conservative singer, during concerts. When agents learned the venue was already secure, they left—and Patel berated them for it.

The most troubling issue, however, is his online behavior. He tweeted about the Charlie Kirk assassination attempt while the investigation was ongoing, implying there was a suspect when there wasn’t. This is the danger of having an FBI director who is far too online.

One thing that soured me on Patel, and it's trivial, I admit, is at the first Kirk press conference, Patel had to take over the presser. Notice how many times he used the word "I". He comes off way too much as a media hound. FBI Director should not be tweeting away as Patel does or getting into it with others on social media.
