Gehrig, Bo Jackson, Kenyon Martin, Nussmeier: Mt. Rushmore of Athletes w Tragic Injuries

My nine year old son asked me on Saturday evening "why?" Garrett Nussmeier's injury happened and robbed him the final three games of his collegiate career as a Tiger.
While struggling on how to explai to my boy on how life is sometimes unfair, I couldn't help but immediately also think of other legends like Lou Gehrig, Kenyon Martin, and Bo Jackson that had prime competing moments stolen from them and how it was really a bad break in the universe when it happened.
I would rank the most tragic and undeserved/tragic medical setbacks to sports stars as:
1) Bo Jackson
2) Garrett Nussmeier
3) Lou Gehrig
4) Kenyon Martin
I feel so terrible for Garrett.

Garrett? Rushmore?
Marcus Lattimore belongs higher on that list but still, a Rushmore for injured players cut short.

Lots of athletes I'd put over Nuss, including Marcus Lattimore. Kid was an absolute beast and that leg injury was brutal

Nuss’s hidden injury only came out after he was sacked or threw an interception, so he doesn’t belong on any list like this.
Hank Gathers is at the top of any list like this though.
