If Coach O returns, will Derek Ponamsky be back as well?

I don't hate the guy, but the posts on here were amusing. Just another thing to look forward to if LK is hired.

I've looked into the mind of Verg and the answer is, yes.

frick “O”!. If they bring him back I hope LSU never ever wins another game.
He’s the reason we were putting this place to begin with. Kelli never comes here of “O” does his job.

It would be very nice if posters would stop using short-hand acronyms that no one else can reasonably be expected to understand.

Only if it’s the DP on pornhub.

I don’t hate the guy either. He deserves some credit for that ‘19 season himself. Helped get O the job and did a lot of things that took them off O’s plate that helped him focus on the things he does best. Being in charge of an entire football program as big as LSU’s is not one of them, so DP probably helped him keep it together for the small window that he was able to.
That said, I don’t think any new HC is going to hire the guy who is only 6 years removed from winning an NC at that school by fielding the best the best team, not just in school history, but the history of the entire sport. Especially one as visible and with as big a personality as O. Not as DL coach.
With the money we’re going to give the new HC to hire assistants, there will be plenty of options as good or better DL coaches he can go with that don’t come with the potential headaches and chaos that Orgeron will bring.
Like in the NFL, the last thing they want is to have to answer questions about their backup QBs. They want them to be invisible unless they have to go in the game. Don’t want them talking to the media. They want their assistant coaches to be invisible, too. Especially position coaches. They don’t even want people to know what they look like, to be able to recognize them in public. Ed could try to be as invisible as possible—I don’t think his personality would allow that for long, as well intentioned as he may be coming in—but the media is gonna be sticking microphones in his face at every opportunity.
And God forbid the HC loses a few games one year and we find ourselves in a season similar to this one, and DP will start working behind the scenes on another coup to usurp the HC and put O back on what he thinks is his rightful place on the thrown. The once and future Tiger King.
Tl;dr—I don’t think any HC would even entertain hiring Ed as DL coach. Maybe Lane would because of their relationship, but I think he’s too smart for that. The juice wouldn’t be worth the squeeze. But if he did, he’s not letting Derek anywhere near the program. That’s just begging for unnecessary headaches. And enough necessary ones come with gig in the 1st place.

The college football world, those involved professionally, not fans, know how little Orgeron actually had to do with that season. The proof is that you have a NC winning coach whose team was one of the best in CFB history and has been available to coach for 4 years...and NO ONE (at least no major conf. program) has expressed any serious interest. O was largely along for the ride and the football world knows it. Their collective actions (or more appropriately, inaction) re: Orgeron is telling you that.
That being the case, if he wants to coach again, being a well paid DL coach on the staff of a close friend at the "hometown" school is not a bad gig in his mid 60's. Kiffin has enough self confidence that he isn't going to worry about anyone thinking O's opinion should carry any weight. And for his part, whatever inflated ego Orgeron had following the 2019 season had no doubt been humbled given he had the best season ever and still can't find a HC gig.

ironic how ADs are not part of that arcane society and keep handing out ridiculous one-sided coaching contracts like Halloween candy
