If Lane signs at LSU, my opinion is that it’s as big as when Saban was hired

In terms of potential and excitement, it’s 100% as big a hire as the Saban hire was. The difference is we just didn’t know it at the time Saban was hired.

Kiffin would bring with him the ability to connect to and recruit the best players, the ability to bring offense to LSU, and if he can get a DC worth a damn, we would be complete year in and year out.

Combine that with an obvious huge increase in roster NIL promises, I just don’t see how a potential Lane Kiffin-led program at LSU is not on par with LSU of the early/mid 2000’s.

LSU has to get him to sign. This is a pivotal point in the history of LSU football.

I don’t remember the Saban hire being seen as a splash hire. Most remembered him as the guy we annihilated in the independence bowl a few years before.

I think it's exciting and there is a lot of upside there. But, I just see myself watching games and thinking "OK, when is Lane gonna Lane?"

Starting to feel like a fever dream. If this was all a big ruse by Lane, then bravo.... pants are still [off] for the time being

Plenty of people questioned the Saban hire and no way he was a unanimous choice at the time of his hire.

I don’t think it’s the same. This is a much bigger hire than when Saban was hired.

Thankfully this board wasn’t around when saban was hired because the meltdown would have been nuclear.

Especially after LSU had just beat Mich State in the independence bowl.

I’m saying the run we went on after Saban was hired, there’s potential to go on that run again if Kiffin comes.

If lane does end up here Saban is a huge reason. The smoke of Saban might never have been real of him coaching, but he played a hand in the outcome if we do get lane.

I was a freshman when Saban was hired. We were all largely clueless and kinda like well let’s see if this dude works. It was a much different world.

Wasn't that 5 years earlier?

But the big thing was Saban couldn't win a bowl game.

I just don't believe it. I have to see it before I believe it.

Same. It seems as most people thought he was not one of our top choices.

He was 34-24-1 at Mich st- How bad would the meltdown be today if we hired a coach that couldn't win 6/10 games?

it's bigger... in fact, it's probably the biggest hire in LSU's history... Saban, at the time, was pretty much an unknown... no one at the time was thinking this guy was going to become the best CFB coach of all time... the Kelly hiring was big, b/c he was ND's all-time winningest coach, but it came out of nowhere, so there wasn't any buzz about it ahead of time...

hiring Lane, with how much media coverage there has been about it, poaching him from bascially 2 other SEC schools, that would easily be the biggest hire we've ever had

Then u must have been a child. It wasn’t big. Saban wasn’t really Saban yet.

People forget that Saban was largely unknown when he was hired and people weren’t really jumping for joy.

A lot of people weren’t happy that we hired a coach that LSU blew out in the Independence Bowl

Wasn’t a ton of excitement until year 2 when we won the SEC

the QB situation also got people mad at him.

He insisted on Booty and there were a large amount of people who wanted Rohan
