Hopefully a deal is signed and we don’t just take a verbal agreement

F that.

You want to coach here, you stand at a podium and announce it before Dec 1st and sign an agreement that if you don’t come to LSU you owe us $20m.

Now is not a time to just wait and see.

I don’t see him leaving early. I can’t see a world where an announcement to go anywhere would happen until his season is over. If he wants to make a run with ole Miss this season, announcing he is leaving with games to be played would only hurt his team. I think no announcement will be made by him until the season is over. If he is staying he would dispel rumors to lessen the distraction of this current playoff run. Which means this board is going to be busy for a while if he is picking another school.

I mean, it makes zero sense for all parties.

It would have to be signed and binding. Anything verbal and LSU is just asking to get screwed. Then, anything signed and Ole Miss is going to tell him to take a hike.

Then there’s the early signing period and transfer portal for both schools.

No way this happens.

Well if that’s the case, not that I believe this ,behind the scenes during signing day and the portal he better be helping LSU get players.

I could see it playing out like that. LSU would have to have 100% certainty that he’s coming, though, so not sure how they’d legally do that. But I’m sure there’s a way.

I have no doubt he wants to coach the playoffs, and I also believe LSU would allow him to do so if they have whatever guarantees they need.

Before yes. But they’ve also not looked great in this whole process. They don’t want to look like they ran him off.

In the end, what everyone wants is to appear stable and in control. Letting Lane finish out strong gives them good momentum going into the playoff, and if he leaves after that, you have had time to get your ducks in a row and have a plan. Everyone is as happy as they can be.

How will LSU explain not hiring a coach until January? What do they tell recruits? How do you keep the players you have? What about preparing to assess needs for the portal?

Just say “we are working on it”

No way he can help and his love be kept quiet. No way he locks in leaving and Ol Piss allows him to coach out.

This is more fictional than all the sauces about today being the day.

Rumor has it Florida agreed to let him finish the season as long as it was announced after the Egg Bowl.

Whether Ole Miss allows him coach the playoffs is completely up to them.

So, what it sounds like:

Florida agrees to let him coach with an early announcement.

LSU agrees to let him coach with a late announcement.

Who do you pick if you’re Lane?

For what it’s worth, MSU let Mullen coach the UF/OU BCS title game before moving to Starkville. But times have changed since then.
