The unspoken subtlety of the Kiffin decision

Ole Miss will have a chance to win a national championship, but…
Ole Miss is not good enough to win a national championship.
His best team ever, and he knows that a first or second round exit is the ceiling. That’s the answer he knows that the “how could he…?” crowd isn’t acknowledging

I and many have said this. He knows it.
He would be gone no doubt if they missed the playoffs.

There’s also that subtlety that he has a fair amount of control over that outcome.

I 100% agree with this. But he still will not leave these players and Oxford in this situation.

If Kiffin comes here and wins, he can’t take all credit
Coaches win at LSU because we have incredible resources to make it happen
We don’t even need to pay top dollar

Exactly. Forget about the city, the high schools, the malls. It all about SEC wins and Championships

This team is not as good as his team last year. Add Lacy to last year’s team, and OM could have beaten anybody.

How does he know this? He's 1-1 against probable CFP teams this year. Both good games. OM had the lead over UGA heading into the 4th quarter. They beat OU.
Using the current bracket, OM's first round would be Miami and second round would be TA&M. Both winnable games.

They may be able to beat Miami, but they won’t beat A&M.
Lane knows this. Go watch his comments in A&M, he thinks they’re the best team in the country.

This is absolutely true and I’m sure the driving force. Chambliss is not winning a national championship and that is all there is to say about it. And they don’t have a good enough defense.

This isn’t his best team he’s ever had, and he absolutely does not think his success this year is his ceiling. This year was a complete rebuild; we lost 20 players to the NFL last year, and everyone thought we had an 8-9 win ceiling. We had an 18-year-old left-handed QB who hadn’t played a snap of SEC football and a random D2 pickup as his backup. We were to play the #5, #9, #13, #15, and #18 ranked teams during the regular season. He never expected to be playing Mississippi State for a home game in the CFP this year, and he was always banking on 26 or 27 to be his next shot at the playoffs.
As mentioned above, our one loss came in the 4th quarter as we lead the entire game against the currently 4th ranked team on the road. Why wouldn’t he think this team could make some noise this year? To say otherwise is delusional.

Never heard of coach speak, have you?

I don’t think lane does the typical coach speak.
Coaches are very well aware of their team, and he’s definitely overachieved with this team.

Whatever decision he makes, he best good with it. He'll never be a hotter coaching prospect than he is right now. There's him and then there's everyone else.

If there were ever a season the Ole Miss (of all schools) could win a Natty, it is this year.
- OSU hasn't been tested, and their offense is not great.
- Texas A&M is a really good squad, but they sometimes look very beatable.
- Oregon plays nobody, and is a bit of a wildcard because of that.
- Georgia has a loss and looks beatable for sure, despite H2H win vs. OM.
- Indiana looks great, but again with the weak schedule thing.
Every other team below that has serious flaws that have already been exposed and reared their ugly heads. I can definitely see a world where OM are National Champs this season.
