Cool. Looks like it may be tied to the series, has many of the various tv producers lined up.

quote:

Plot details are being kept quiet for now; all Prime Video offers by way of description is that the show will be a “bold new chapter” in the Stargate franchise. Gero, whose credits also include Blindspot and NBC’s Quantum Leap reboot, will executive produce with Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Tory Tunnell (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters) of Safehouse Pictures, Devlin and Emmerich. Brad Wright, who co-created the three previous Stargate series, and Joe Mallozzi, an executive producer and writer on all three shows, will be consulting producers.

“Stargate is an enduring, iconic franchise that has captivated audiences for decades with its bold exploration of humanity’s place in the cosmos,” said Nick Pepper, head of U.S. SVOD TV development at Amazon MGM Studios. “In partnership with our extraordinary creative team of Martin, Tory, and Joby, we’re honored to open this next gate to bring a visionary new chapter of this beloved franchise to our global Prime Video audience, one that honors the series”’ rich legacy while propelling it into an ambitious and emotionally resonant future.”

I was wondering when they'd get around to this. It and Atlantis were two really long running shows.

I loved the series and liked Atlantis but the SGU show was horrible.

The movie made the activating so dramtic compared to the tv show.

Very excited by this. SG-1 is one of my top 3 shows and I liked Atlantis too.

The original creators/producers are involved and it's not a reboot.

It actually started to get good at the end.

SGU always seemed like a bad rip off of BSG to me.

SGU was weird. They wanted to make BattleStargate. They took the absolute worst parts of BSG ( search for food, mutiny) and completely removed the best part of Stargate (humor, aliens). There were some folks on here who defended the show. Rape stones? How can you defend the rape stones? It was boring. It had no humor. It had no aliens. Terrible show. Not Terra Nova terrible, but close.

Maybe it was worse than Terra Nova because it was so bad it killed the franchise for 15 years.

Is been 15 years? I remember both me and you being excited about SGU then being so bummed with how bad it came out. Rape Stones lol. Exactly they removed the best part of SG and Atlantis the near human aliens.
Instead they tried to make it more a space faring shpw with no aliens.
Only Firefly pulled that off.

As I said back then, there was more humor in a single Teal'c eyebrow pop than the entire 2 seasons of SGU.

With all of the remakes, I am shocked it took them this long to bring Stargate back to life.

I hope it works out, as I really liked those shows. But...

format might make this not work. Stargate came from the era where you got 20+ episodes a season, while things currently come in 6-8 episodes a season. You might say "a lot of that was filler", but filler was how we saw those characters develop so deeply. Now, we don't have time to see the characters in a day-to-day setting.

A lot of shows like that (SG1, Babylon 5, DS9, etc) really hit their stride a couple seasons in; that's maybe 20 episodes to establish what the situation is and introduce the characters, and another 20+ to explore the characters. We ABSOLUTELY don't have time for that anymore.

All of that is correct.

I wonder how many more worlds they visit that resemble British Colombia.

SGU was trash but I did really like Robert Carlyle in it.

Na. His mysterious plot to bring his wife back to life was weak. And too mysterious.

The only good thing from SGU was big tit solder woman.

The rape stones were awful, and although the story arc probably required a way to communicate back to earth eventually, like in SG atlantis, it happened too early in the series and the associated story line was terrible

The underlying mystery of the aliens that resurrected the civilians left behind on a planet, the ongoing pursuit by hostile aliens, and the hodgepodge of characters themselves which were getting pretty well fluffed out kept me watching

it definitely had a different tone than all of its predecessors. But I was disappointed when it got canceled.

When was the last time the so-called scifi channel had a self-produced scifi show?

Freaking love the activation sequence. Three best episodes would have "unscheduled offworld activation".
