SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Ahead of Thanksgiving, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) supporters protested the eating of animals at Thanksgiving earlier today, on Tuesday, Nov. 18, downtown.

To protest, a PETA supporter was dressed in skin-tight, beige shorts, made to look like he was nude, mimicking a raw turkey.

His legs were curled to his chest with his eyes closed as he laid on a prop cutting board that read “go vegan this Thanksgiving” next to giant inflatable “turkey carcasses.”

The display was meant to show likeness between the emotions of humans and animals.

“PETA is showing everyone that humans and turkeys are the same in all the ways that matter. We all feel pain, love, fear, and joy and don’t want to be chopped up into little pieces and put on a centerpiece of a holiday dinner table," said Mason Melito, a campaigner with PETA.

Protesters encouraged families to have a “Thanksvegan,” suggesting that traditional Thanksgiving foods can be exchanged for vegan alternatives.

“PETA is encouraging everyone to have a ‘Thanksvegan’ this year and to visit PETA.org and order a free ‘Thanksvegan’ guide for vegan versions of everyone’s favorite holiday recipes and helpful shopping guides,” Melito said.

Protestors handed out PETA “Thanksvegan” recipe books with vegan recipes for Thanksgiving foods, including stuffing and savory “chicken” pot pie.

That man needs some stuffing if he's gonna be a turkey.

I will contribute to the GFM of anyone brave enough to cram some dressing up that "turkey's" arse.

I saw them on my lunch break today.

From across the street I couldn't tell what those things were.

As I passed and realized it was a dude and a couple of fake turkeys I got a light chuckle.

That's perhaps the lamest PETA protest I've seen.

But I do wonder how long he held that position. Got to be hard on the neck.

PETA needs to set its sights on Caddo Parish Animal Services. Horrid hellhole and crappy director.
