I don't why LSU has to hire a current head coach

Go get Schumann and call it a day. He's worked under Kirby forever. He's learned what it takes to coach a winner.

Their defense immediately got worse as soon as Muschamp wasn't looking over his shoulder as co-DC. He's not what Lanning was.
I don't think many people look at actual resumés and experience, they just see headlines. There is no Kirby Smart or Brent Venables or Dan Lanning out there right now. Hartline had one season as OC, was immediately demoted, and is now being given a second shot with results TBD. Ryan Day and Marcus Freeman were internal promotions who didn't have to build anything; they got to take over programs running on all cylinders.

100% agree. Worked for Georgia hiring Kirby and Oregon hiring Lanning.
I think he’s Lanning 2.0 and if he doesn’t work out his buyout won’t be ridiculous so you can pivot fast

Is Schumann even that good? Georgias defense has noticeably gotten worse since Lanning left

They're ranked 20th in YPG allowed. So, yes, they've gotten worse in that they're no longer a top 5 D, but hardly a disaster.

Their defense also doesn't have the players it had when Muschamp was there. I don't think its all Schumann.

Because since 2000, 16 of the national championship teams have been coached by someone with head coaching experience and 8 have not.
Stoops
Coker
Fisher
Swinney X 2
Smart X 2
Day
But the flaw in the logic is that of those 16, 7 belong to the same man, the GOAT. One of those (Miles) is largely due to him. And two more (Chizik & O) essentially got lucky.

insecurity of the fan base, LSU is the little brother to Bama and Georgia and want to keep up with the Joneses.
