You get 12 games a year. You spend the other 353 days a year preparing for those 12 games. Recruiting, practicing, studying, conditioning, raising money. Programs invest decades of time and money into facilities, finding the right staff, and finding the right players just in the hopes that it will all come together in a special season where things line up and you can make a championship run. There are hundreds if not thousands of people who work to support those goals, thousands of people who contribute financially to support those goals.

And then finally, you find your team in one of those specials seasons you’ve been building toward, where a championship run is as real as it’s ever been. But instead of all the energy and attention being on the team and what’s happening on the field, you spend half the season in a quasi-reality show where your head coach is entertaining abandoning the program. Decades of investments being disrespected by a man child who’s enamored by a shiny new toy sitting in a window, who’s enamored by social media attention, who thinks he’s the modern Steve Spurrier but doesn’t have a single piece of hardware to back it up. Ridiculous.

Yes welcome to the coaching world. Coaches leave every year. Part of the business

Yes it is and he's probably going to do it to whoever else he leaves to. I honestly would not be mad if LSU missed on Kiffin. Wouldn't be upset with him but don't come crying 3 years from now when you're in a NC run and someone like Texas steals him.

It's the time of NIL and the portal, we're past the point of respect for a University.

I have a lurking suspicion that Ole Miss may be in on the troll.

Not to mention that this whole situation just shows the absurdity of the current calendar in college football.

I agree. What is the point of all the BS that goes along with being a college coach if its not to make the playoffs and win a Natty? I get that the second part is what people will point to as a reason to leave OM but this season is wide open and OM has as good of a shot as anyone to win it all.

I just don't see how LSU or any school can feel good about a guy that isn't all in on his best shot at a Natty that he has had in his entire career. Whats to say he doesn't have LSU at 10-1 a few years from now and then bails on us to go to Texas?

This happens every year. The in-demand coaches are usually the ones having great seasons at mid-level or previously underachieving programs.

That’s the best case scenario and even if that’s true, is the distraction worth it?

It is if everyone at Ole Miss is in on it.

Is he their property or something? Is he not allowed to make his own decisions in life about where he wants to work and live? He’s already working under a contract he signed. He’s not obligated to sign a new one just because that school is trying to keep him from leaving. What kind of BS thinking is that?

Never give Ole Miss a benefit of the doubt

Because Texas for all intents a purposes is a lateral move. The only threat if Kiffin comes to LSU is the NFL, and he already gave that a go.

Maybe. Maybe he's just being a selfish arse and is enjoying his spotlight right now.

Maybe he's doing what adults do and exploring all options available and making an informed decision.

Maybe he's doing all this to take the pressure off of his team. If the spotlight is on him, it's not on his players who are in uncharted waters for Ole Miss.

Maybe he is gathering all the intel he can about what Florida and LSU are doing with coaching salaries, assistant salaries, NIL money, etc. so he can bring that info back to Ole Miss and show them what the opposition is doing so they can make the necessary adjustments to sustain their position.

Maybe.

We'll find out in a week or so.

He's also trolling his own fanbase and school that has handsomely funded his roster, in the midst of a playoff run.

That's what pisses everyone off - it's the lack of perceived gratitude.
