“You can’t lie to the American people about affordability”

I keep seeing this narrative that people know how much they’re spending at the grocery store, and therefore, Trump is gaslighting the American people.
Please provide actual data to support your claim. I don’t care about your perception because, quite frankly, I highly doubt you’ve done the analysis. It’s all based on this “assumption” that everyone agrees things are super expensive.
Lucky for us, there’s actually data on these things. It’s called inflation! and it can be broken out between different cost categories. And the data says inflation is flat year-over-year at roughly 3%. I’d love for it to be even lower, which it’s forecasted to be in 2026, but the whole affordability crisis is made-up. MTG, stop gaslighting me.

Inflation has been below 3% for a while now
Only the lowest of iq posters (roncucks, lsurussian etc) trust the BLSs inflation number

The affordability crisis is absolutely NOT made up! That sort of thinking shows how financially out of touch the wealthy, retirees, and upper middle class are with the realities faced by the working classes and young professionals today.
One can argue that Trump is not responsible for the affordability crisis, and that the Trump Administration is enacting the best policies within its power to combat the crisis. But, denying it exists is akin to denying the sunrise. It simply occurs whether you believe it to or not.

Inflation has slowed, as the data shows.
But I think the public expected prices to go back down to 2019 levels.
It doesn't work that way.

Are you poor or something?

Affordability is relative. Affordability may be a problem for some people and not others. I don’t look at prices when I go grocery shopping. I set my life up to not have to worry about it. Went to college, saved money, retired just living off pensions and haven’t touched 401k in seven years. Prices will not stay the same as they were 5 or 10 years ago. They will go up every year. It’s up to you to be disciplined and set yourself up to not worry about buying groceries.

Affordability issues for lower income folks didn’t just start last month.
Things are more affordable than the last admin.
Wages are actually outpacing inflation.
Vote Democrat if you want to go more unaffordable. Look at California and NY.

I congratulate you on your prosperity. America however, is far too expensive for me. My standard of living is declining as my mandatory bills and taxes increase I’m glad year to year is steady but it’s already surpassed my personal threshold.

It can work that way, but more people will be out of work and still won’t be able to afford it.

You act as if people can accomplish this with a simple snap of their fingers. There are a ton of factors that lead to the ability to go grocery shopping without even concerning yourself with prices. All of these factors are not under the control of most.

When a normal American home costs $4500 per month in monthly payment, taxes, insurance we have a major affordability problem

True, but they continue to compound, and the job market has deteriorated sharply just since this time last year. So many white collar workers are facing layoffs and real jobs are scarce. Most job postings these days are straight up fake.

If people quit buying stuff that they can’t afford in the first place, then things are a lot more affordable.
Easy peasy

but they are getting worse.
And people notice. Y;all need to step outside the bubble once in a while.

Biden and Kamala said 401ks and stock were fine, lied about affordability, where are they now?
Posted on 11/15/25 at 12:36 pm to geauxEdO
Groceries are expensive. It didn’t happen under Trump. It hasn’t gotten better under Trump…

Not anymore, Trump fired all the people that provide data because most of it is bad.

i don’t consider myself out-of-touch with reality. In fact, if you can’t accept that certain populations will always have some level of financial struggle then you’re living in la la land. but it’s not worse today than it was last year or even ten years ago.
Americans also tend to spend way above their means. Most people’s definition of cutting back is hardly cutting back relative to other parts of the world.

i’m not saying financial struggle doesn’t exist. but rather, it’s always existed.
and not to diminish your situation, but what does surpassing your personal threshold look like? are you homeless? did your car get repossessed?

This isn’t a “lol, the barista with a women’s studies degree can’t afford a 4br house” problem. The engineering grads are struggling to find jobs. The computer science folks with a decade of experience are getting laid off. Food that cost $1 5 years ago now costs $4. This is the worst job market I have ever seen, and unlike 2008, there’s no housing correction or deflation to cushion the blow. Housing and food are steady or rising while jobs are disappearing by the hundreds of thousands.
