For all the clowns knocking Lane, or any candidate, about "What have they won", you do realize that there are only 3 active head coaches with a Natty? Day, Smart, Dabo

Want to lower the threshold to a conference championship? Among P4 coaches that list includes Lanning, Ferentz, Day, Norvell, Dabo, Cristobal (at Oregon), Dillingham, Smart, Riley, Aranda, Klieman, Sark (Big 12), and Narduzzi.

That's it....13 coaches from 136 football teams. Less than 10% meet the expectations of most on this board.

IMO the next coach needs the following qualities:

-subject matter expert on either side of the ball, no more CEO type
-accurately assess and identify talent
-acquire said talent
-put players in best position to be successful
-situationally sound football with the flexibility to adjust to in game situations as needed

I would add the following quality is needed at LSU right now after BK…

-a coach that’s gonna work his arse off 24/7/365

Watching everyone on this board ride for Lane and shite on every other candidate because their record versus ranked teams while Lane has won 30% of his games against ranked teams is comical. You’re absolutely right. Given the boards criteria, Kirby is the only non shitty candidate

Absolutely. Great point. Can't take the bag and mail it in. There has got to be an unmatched level of commitment and intensity. This is a quality few possess, but it is an absolute requirement to succeed at the highest level. And winning once does not guarantee continued success. You cannot rest on your laurels. It does take someone of the mindset of Saban. Maybe Lane learned that in his time at Bama? He certainly seems like a different (better) coach in his post-Saban years.

Well why not just pay the coach 100k a year and load it with incentives?

You should also say that LSU needs this to be a home run hire.

You should also say that you want a coach who hates losing more than loves to win.

You people are stupid with your takes. You just simply state the obvious.

Which is exactly why the coaching salary exasperation is silly.

Not one person on this board could coach a winning FBS football team. Not one.

There's a handful of guys on earth who can do it. There's like 10-15 that can do it consistently. And if it's done consistently the returns for the university and region are massive. You could pay someone who would come to your university and win consistently 30 mil a year and, assuming they do win conference titles and national championships, it's a drop in the bucket.

That's about as possible as someone giving 110%. Never gonna happen and nothing more than a myth.

A yearly salary of $10-$15 million is not out of line for the guys that are successful. It’s the guaranteed contracts with massive buyouts that never made sense and I have no idea how we got here.

Pay the guy $10 million a year, but if you aren’t winning you don’t get paid to sit at home. It seems like the tide is starting to shift.

Thank you. I would love to have Kiffin, but I also think several others would be slam dunks including Marcus Freeman, Alex Golesh, and Kenny Dillingham.

There are a few candidates that would do well here. Kiffin doesn't seem like the one that is going to take the job. I still like Eric Morris.
