Who did Nigeria piss off?

All 32 Teams Officially Part of NFL's Global Markets Program
Program Sees League-Wide Participation Across 21 International Markets Initiative Awards NFL Clubs International Marketing Rights to Grow Fandom Around the World

The National Football League announced an additional expansion of its Global Markets Program (GMP) in 2025, with three further clubs set to join this year. With the additions of the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals and Tennessee Titans, all 32 clubs will now officially participate in the program across 21 international markets — as the NFL continues to prioritize global growth, connecting with more fans across markets around the world.

Launched in 2022, the Global Markets Program awards NFL clubs international marketing rights to build brand awareness and fandom beyond the U.S., through fan engagement, events, commercial opportunities and NFL Flag development.

"We're thrilled to have all 32 clubs a part of the Global Markets Program in 2025," said NFL Executive Vice President Club Business, Major Events & International Peter O'Reilly. "League-wide club participation in the program underlines the strategic priority both the NFL and its teams share, to invest in global growth. We continue to see strong momentum worldwide and look forward to bringing fans internationally closer to our game, together."

The latest Global Markets Program updates for 2025 include:

THREE NEW CLUBS*:

Buffalo Bills: Granted rights in Canada.
Cincinnati Bengals: Granted rights in Canada.
Tennessee Titans: Granted rights in Ireland.
NFL clubs can apply for rights to international markets by submitting proposals to the International Committee for review each spring. Clubs are awarded rights for a five-year term through the program and during this period can pursue activities that are consistent with what they can do in their home domestic market, in their awarded international markets.

Dolphins makes sense, aside from the UK market. They gave them Latin American countries and Spain. They're also playing the first game in Spain this weekend against the Commanders.

LA Rams makes sense.

The rest are seemingly random.

419 scams apparently mean being associated with Cleveland.

Rams
Australia
China
Japan
Mexico
New Zealand
South Korea
UAE

Chargers
Greece

The Chargers might be the franchise with the most desperate need to be marketed, how is this the distribution? Not even a tie-in with Mexico when they used to be on the Tijuana border?

The league just gets a jump start and ships the Browns Super Bowl apparel to Nigeria before the season even starts.

Bills and Bengals didn't really want to do it, so when forced they were like "fine, frick it. We'll take Canada"

Phoenix / Scottsdale has loads of Canadian ex pats and visitors. That's the tie in there. If you've ever been to the Phoenix Open, they're everywhere there.

It’s funny they designated the Patriots as the Germany main team, one because WWII lulz, but also bc they’ve had like 5 Germany games at this point and none included the patriots

Why do large countries like China, Japan, and France each only have only one team but countries like Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, and New Zealand have multiples?

There are some very strange allocations on this and others that make sense.

Dolphins get Latin America and Spain - that makes complete sense, though they really should get South America, not Mexico. No idea why they are tied into the UK - that is dumb.

Saints get France. Makes sense.

Bills, Lions, Vikings, and Seahawks get Canada. Makes sense - all are within a few hours of the border, and the Bills have long had a relationship with Toronto. Cardinals kind of makes sense given the prevalence of Canadians around there. Bengals makes absolutely no sense.

Germany is a big international market, and virtually all the teams there seemed to have been picked at random. What is the tie in with any of those teams?

Mexico is another big market, and most of them make sense. Cowboys, Raiders, Niners, and Steelers all have big fanbases there. Cardinals, Texans, and Rams are all within a few hours of the border. Chiefs, Dolphins, and Broncos make no sense.

They want an LA team in the Pacific region (China, Korea, Japan). OK, that makes sense.

Brazil other than the Dolphins is completely random. Ditto UAE, Switzerland, New Zealand, Greece - those names seem to have been pulled out of a hat.

EDIT: I figured out why the Chargers get Greece which seemed very random. Dean Spanos is a big Greek heritage and cultural guy.

What? Buffalo is about a quarter mile to Canada as the crow flies, about 10-15 minutes to drive there across the Peace Bridge.

It does make sense. But if you read it, the Bills were one of the last 3 teams to participate. I just mean they took the path of least resistance for the sake of saying they checked the box.

They have a cheap arse owner so I believe my theory holds.
