What do y'all know about these guns? I have a buddy that has one and it's the only one I've ever seen. Pretty cool compact deer rifle.

Well, as luck would have it, another guy I know starts talking about how he needs to sell a few guns just to make room. He buys a lot and flips and trades all the time. He's not hurting for the money.

He's flipping through pictures of what he has and when it appears I go, "Hold it. Is that a Ruger Carbine 44 mag?"

He says, "Good eye. Most people think it's an old 1022."

It's for sale.

I'm trying to determine a fair price. Gun broker has current bids on the few that are listed between $800-$1000 with a bunch of buy it now options between $1200-$2000.

What would be a fair price? The condition looks good from the pics.

Picture for reference: (Not the actual gun I'm looking at buying)

Tell him you don't know what they cost but would give $500 -600 probably. See what he says.

Do it. Great little deer gun for up to 100 yards or so. I love the old carbines. I have the Ruger 44 mag, and the Marlin Camp 9 and Camp 45. I'd see if you can get it for 600 or so.

ETA: I do hunt with the 44 with Leverevoltion ammo. The two camp carbines get shot very seldom, but I just like em

CSB- I killed my first deer with one when I was 9yo. A 3pt, back in the day when you rarely saw a buck, much less a forky horned buck. I assume the buck fever is what caused me to shoot it in the side of the nose, but that's where I hit it. The wallop it put on it broke the deer's neck. Good times

Excellent swamp hunting gun killed many deer still hunting and ahead of dogs with exact same one.

Used this gun when I was a kid. The only thing I didn’t like about it was it did not have a clip for cartridges. Manual load and unload. I remember as a kid how much that sucked with slide action to unload with cold hands.

I still have the gun as well. Was just talking with my dad last night how I need to get it out the gun safe and fire a few rounds out of it.

That's what I want to pay for it.

Here is a link I found about current value...

LINK

Full disclosure. He said he'd take $1200. The link suggest I need to be down around $1000.

I picked one up at a pawn shop around ‘09 for about $600. Since I already had another one I sold it to a family member for the same about 10yrs later. I probably could have made a few dollars off of it but I’m glad he’s got it.

$1,000 is probably accurate value depending on condition and which one it is. I believe Ruger had 3 different models over the years.

I paid $600 for one and $650 for another one back in 2014.

Was the first rifle my Dad bought me as a kid ~45yrs ago. Took my first deer with it as well as both my boys. Probably still tote it to the woods more than any other rifle I own. It's only ever had 240gr hollow pt hands loads run through it. They rarely run once shot and if so, it's always a short track. They are a great all around gun and fantastic for hogs also.

split the difference and call it a deal since it sounds like you're getting it with no yellow paper and no taxes

hell if it's in good enough shape and you like it and it fits a gap in what you don't have, I'd be inclined to go his $1200 but offer up the split the difference for opening. Myself, I've already got a Marlin 44 lever that I love and so wouldn't be a "gap filler" for me.

I have the Deerfield model. I absolutely love it. I paid $650 I believe from a guy on Bayoushooter and that was probably 8 plus years ago. I'm sure $1000 is about the going rate now, maybe more. Fun little gun. Fairly accurate. Deadly out to about 100 yards. That 44mag packs a punch on a whitetail!

Seems like there were a bunch of us that wanted one as a kid or had one. Like I said in the OP, my buddy had one as his deer rifle when we were kids and I always thought it was cool.

I texted the guy for closer pics to determine the overall condition. I’m going to go for it if it’s in 90% or better condition.

Wish me luck. I’ll post pics if I get it.

We just took one in at on trade at the range in almost new condition. I had never seen one in person. I call it the Ruger 10/44.

I kind of want to buy it. Looks like it would be an awesome CQB gun that doesnt look like a CQB gun.

I will get to shoot it tomorrow morning. I will update how I like it after that.

I’ve been wanting one for about 15 years since I first saw one. I dong have a use for it, but keep hoping to come across a deal on one or see one on the shelf of a pawn shop or something.

Dad had one, his brother borrowed it, left it on the roof of his 70 charger, drove off, dad no longer had it.
