Who would you consider the greatest and most accomplished LSU athlete of all time?

My short list would be (in no particular order)

Shaq - NBA Championships 00',01',02',06', Multiple Finals MVP, League MVP in 00', Rookie of the Year in 93, Olympic Gold Medalist, and countless other accolades.

Burrow - Multiple awards in college including 19' National Championship & 19' Heisman Trophy, Multiple Pro-bowls, & led the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance early in his pro career.

Maravich - NCAA Scoring Leader, College Player of the Year 70', NBA Scoring Champ 77', and Multiple All-Star Selections

Skenes - National Pitcher of the Year in 23', NCAA Championship & MVP 23', NL Rookie of the Year 24', Multiple All-Star Selections, and finally the NL Cy Young Award 25'.

Paul Skenes is very quickly heading to the top of the list, if he isn't there already and what is so impressive is that he just completed his second year in his professional career.

Who is at the top of the list for you?

I think if you’re including what happened in their pro career, it has to be Shaq.

Also, Andrew Whitworth at least belongs in the discussion. Natty, Super Bowl, 4x Pro Bowler, and I believe he has the highest career earnings of any LSU alumnus in the NFL (until Burrow).

Shaq by far, though Skenes will have a chance. We'll see. Guessing Burrow won't have the chance bc of injuries.

Not necessarily at the top but Bob Pettit won two NBA MVP's and was the main player on a NBA title team that beat the Celtics in the finals, who won the year before and went on to win the next 7.

If you were talking about just in college, then Tommy Casanova is on that short list. Three time all-America, college football hall of fame, LSU ring of honor.

Crews is a glaring omission from your list

but it seems your list is focusing more on professional accolades more than what they did at LSU

Don’t forget about the old guys - YA Tittle, Jim Taylor, Johnny Robinson. All NFL HOFers and legends in their own right.

Taylor and Tittle were NFL MVPs in consecutive years. Robinson played on the 1958 LSU national championship team and the Chiefs’ Super Bowl IV-winning team.

I came to add Alvin Dark. He played football, basketball, and baseball at LSU. In addition to his playing days, he was also a manager in the MLB for 13 seasons. I know it was a different era, but not many players did those things.
